Road Race Torque/Hp Valve train combo

Curious what the road racers are running for Heads Cam Headers to get the most torque edge against the Vipers.

Lots of H/C combos and could spend days comparing them all.

Seams like there are a bunch that make over 420HP that never touch 400 TQ. So what is the recipie you like short of building a 383 / 427. The ingredients below seam to be included in dyno posts over 400RWT.

LG Headers ?
AFR Heads?
LPE Heads?, Other?
Compression bump 10:8 - 11:0?
Cam 224/228 114 ?
G5X3?
Comp 921 valve springs
A/F 12.8 - 13.?

Since we beat on the valve train longer and harder than a drag car and build more heat, I would think the 11 second recipie and the 1:29 road course would have different tunes and hardware and power bands.

450 RWHP 400 tq spanked them all the last two years at Viper club event. There is more than HP but it does help. I'll crack 1:30 at Pocono long course this year I hope I was real close last year. The Vipers were a little stunned. They are a great group anyway and I hope there are some faster ones this year. Vette Doctors did the motor 346 CI If I get beat it will make me work harder, everyone gets beat no big deal. Car like mine did 11.4 in the 1/4. Doubt mine would becase of the suspension setup. You need the whole package. One problem I had last year was the fenders rubbing as you see in the picture. I was cording the tires but didn't think they were hitting until the last day of the season at Lime Rock I was doing the brake and saw the rubber hanging. The tires do a nice smooth job of cutting. Nobody ever noticed it. I have to cut the fenders or put some ACP flaired fenders like the C6 Z06 has. Doubt he will have them ready for the start of the season.

If you have suspension and tires that can handle it then yes trq is better and a broader less peaky powerband.
I would think the cam selection is the most critical piece by far.
A good HC package though by LGM, Cartek,LPE,etc.. should all make 400trq plus with at least 440rwhp.

Speedpup, Nice pic, pullin' some serious G's.
Are those the Goodyear 25.5 x11 x18's on 10.5's up front?. T1 springs and bars?

I guess what I am asking is what is the cam/gear ratio combo you think is the best compromise for the tracks you run. I try to shift at 6,500ish but there are many spots where you find yourself holding at this rpm as you would shift back down for a braking zone in a split second. What rpm do you feel safe at 6,800, 7,000?

Out West we run ..............maybe your track compares to these.

Buttonwillow - SCCA owned track, technical in some configurations. Lots of short sprints, heavy braking a 2.5 mile track where 2:00 is real fast. More time in 3rd here. 3:42's are about right.

WillowSprings - The fastest track in the West. 2.5 miles and 1:30 for Andy Pilrgam in stock Z trim and F1's I am told. 3rd, 4th and a brief spot in 5th with stock gears. May be better with 3:73's or 3:90's and use 5th more.

California Speedway- Lots of configs, no fun without running part of the oval. The infield track is pretty tight and flat some 2nd mostly 3rd gear then air it out for the oval. 3:42's feel ok. Don't recall the times or length.

Laguna Seca another 2.5 mile track with 1:45ish being pretty good as I recall. 2nd brief, 3rd, 4th , 5th on the straight. May be better with a 3:73 - 3:90 ratio.

3rd gear with the 3:42's is about 103ish as I recall
4th gear is about 145ish.

3rd works great and you hate to give up the mph. 4th just seams kinda weak right after the shift. 5th is a long straight gear only for a very short time on these tracks.

My receipe?

Stock Gears
G5x3 112
AFRs milled for a tad more than 11:1 with 921s
Moly pushrods
Cometics per LG Spec
LG LTs
Stock Ti catback
Limiter at 7k, This will get some MPH back. None of those tracks we have been near that with a lighter car and more hp.

All of our packages are geared towards the road racing scene so I do not think you could go wrong.

If you would like, we can sit down and come up with a killer package that would really suit road racing well.

One other thing I would like to add is that short shifting these packages will not hurt you like the stock setup does. Short shift at 6500 will still net you more than 375 tq to the rear tires.
