Stacey, I'd stick w/ just the 4 point--that's all you'll need for what you're looking to accomplish. If you're planning on getting really serious, you'll need to go w/ the cage--and pretty much hack up that beautiful car of yours...:oo:

Not disagreeing with most of what you said here but you can have a roll cage installed that looks like it came out of the factory that way. My Z doesn't look hacked up
Who did your cage and for what type of racing is it approved?
Star Chassis here in KC did an amazing job of putting in the roll cage. It has removable or swing out door bars. The Edwards Brothers Upholster's here in KC added the padded leather coverings on the cage. Total cost for both around $3,000.
I can't answer your 'types of racing' question precisely, but I'd guess it would allow me on most any track in the country.
I think the key is "approved for racing." While I haven't looked at my GCR regarding this thread, it don't think the removal bars would pass SCCA tech inspection.
But for driving events and roll bar or Mike's solution would be more than adequate. NHRA would only require a bar until you break the 9.99 barrier, if my memory serves me right.
Regarding SCCA legal cages, I was literally apalled at what is done to these beautiful cars to install them. The door panels are cut, the dash is cut, oh what they do! But boy do this cages work.
That is why I could not let than happen to my baby. I'd rather buy a car with this already done.

T1 prepped car is definately next on the list of major purchases, but until then, I just have to race. I suppose I could stick with open track and de days. In that case, I would guess that the 6 point roll bar from Wolfe would be adequate.http://www.wolferacecraft.com

David, I think if you see my door bars at the fest, you might find they would pass the SCCA inspection. The front pillars are welded into the frame and the bars atteach with a large bolt-in arrangement. These guys have made the cages for some NASCAR vehicles. You'll just have to take a look at it in September and tell me what you think.
I am selling one, pending the sale of my car on ebay ... and I am going to have to disagree with you ... my car wasn't all hacked up... I have an NHRA legal 5 point wolfe racecraft cage in my car. Very easily uninstallable.

Stacey,
David is correct. The SCCA changed the rules this year to require a full NASCAR cage in T1 cars for safety. Bolt in cages no longer allowed (but grandfathered for cars registered with the SCCA before this year).
The roll cage is an eight point roll cage. Main hoop, front hoop, brace through dash, welded braces to firewall from front hoop inside dash, dual door bar required on drivers side that goes out into door - requires cutting out lower half of door panel (windows can be left operational), dual door bar optional on passenger side (I have it). Not for the faint of heart.
If you want one, Pheonix will do one for you. PM me and I'll send you contact info. He is out of Philly.

Just wanted to make sure no one looks at Mike's nice rollcage and spends money getting one thinking they will be okay for SCCA T1 class. It sounds great for the drag strip or DEs, but won't cut it with the new SCCA rules.

Oh sure, thanks a lot David and Brad. Just let me spend all those bucks and then bust my bubble
