This is a heads up for anyone interested in seeing some of the best T1 racing yet this year. Mid Ohio is hosting the first of two "regular" SCCA National races on June 5th and 6th. This particular weekend promises to showcase some of the best T1 racers in the country warming up for this September's Run Offs.
John Heinricy, Freddy Baker, David Roush and Lance Knupp, among others (I will update the list as it develops) are going to put of a heck of a show. The newcomer to this is Andrew "The Kid" Aquilante, Joe Aquilante's son. Andrew has proven to be rather fast, especially considering his newness to this sport.
I get the opportunity to watch this from some of the best (racing) seats in the theater...on track trying to stay with this group.
This event will most likely have provisions for spectators. I promise you will not be disappointed in the action.
Hope to see you there.

I had the pleasure of having Dave Roush ride along with me for a few sessions at the last DE event I did at Mid-Ohio. What a GREAT guy! Gave me lots of good advice and hung out with us in the garage for a while (us Vette guys gotta stick together.) I'd sure love to watch him run.

David,
Good luck up there.
I'm torn between going to Mid Ohio to get humbled by the top notch guys you mentioned, or going to Topeka to run a MidWest Division race.
Decisions, decisions.
Memphis looks good next weekend. My parts finally came in on my engine and it is going back together today and tomorrow. I am off to Norfolk to pick it up at zero dark hundred tomorrow.
Can't wait! It's been four weeks since I've been on the track. Tooooooo long.

My brother, I was on-track this past weekend and am feeling "lost" already. I only have to wait two more weeks to get the rush, I can't imagine a longer wait.
David,
Well my car is back in my garage with a rebuilt motor, no codes and no more leaks...
Had an issue with one of the ABS lines. Are those important?
Finished the hard part of the alignment tonight (corner weight, camber, and rear toe). Will finish it up tomorrow.
Looking forward to Memphis on Memorial Day weekend.

BTW: torque tube broke...ouch!
That is an ouch. Anything else break as a result? Over rev engine? Tranny?
Good luck getting it back together!

Nothing else, motor fine: The car just would not go into gear, when I finally did get it into a gear, it felt as if the car was stuck in two gears. The motor never was in danger...thank goodness.

Thanks, the car is done today, all ready for next week. I am practicing on Thursday, all day. Lance is going, Joe will be there, and I understand JH will, also. Good opportunity for me to get some good seat time and learn a bit.
Mid-Ohio has drivers coaching those on track. Johnny Rutherford, Jr will be working my session. Should be interesting to say the least. PLUS the added benefit from hanging with Joe and John. These are neat times, it's a good life!
Glad to hear you guys have it all back together and you are ready to race. It must be tough trying to decide to do Mid-Ohio. If you're trying to qualify for the runoff's, I can see trying to pick up some points at the other track where there will be less competition. OTOH, racing all of these top dogs at Mid-Ohio would be fun and educational as well. Tough one.
I was at Mid-Ohio attending the Mid-Ohio Competition School today. Great time and lots of seat time.
We jumped into a van for the morning "track walk." I sit next to Lance Knupp, T1's next star, and guess who is in front of me? John Heinricy, the "Man" himself. I am taking the same driving school as him, how cool.
BTW: If you ever get to met him, he really is a very nice gentleman. Quite, be very nice.
I ran the entire 4 sessions in the "free" Kumho V700 Victoracers, 275/315s. Not the best set up, but I did not want to ruin a set of Goodyears for this type of seat time.

The funny thing about this to me is that I know people that have gotten instruction at the track once or twice at a DE and don't think that they can learn anything else. Then you have someone of Heinrocket's experience and ability taking a driving school.
David: Best of luck to you this weekend at Mid-Ohio!

This exactly my point for posting that observation! I was dumb struck (as well as dumb ) when I saw he climb in the van. That is why he is so good...he is always learning.

That's the approach that I like to take. I can never learn enough.. If I can pick up one tidbit of information, it's all worthwhile.
