Great job on both second place finishes. Dan is a hell of a driver and a kick to watch drive. The first place car in ASP also got 1st in SM2. The driver was I believe faster in SM2. The car did after all have a 18 wheeler as a trailer 2nd place in ASPL was also very good. Sue, which got 1st, is a great driver and can beat most men.
I got 5th in SM2 out of 23 drivers. It was my first trophy at National so I was pretty happy.
I believe tire became an issue. The new Kumho tire ( Ecsta V700 ) worked real well, which was used on the 1st place guys in ASP and SM2. They got a lot of 1st place finishes considering the number of people on Hoosiers. They had the 275-17 and the 335-17. That will be my next tire.

Dan did a great job on the difficult (to go fast) south course. We are all at least a year or more behind in development compared to the winner (Thomason) Back to the drawing board for next year.
Congrats on the trophy this year Jose those do not come easy... Su would have been third in ASP if not for one of those pesky cones... watch out guys
Congratulations to all you guys!! How about the Strelnieks?! Is that one fast couple!!?? Very nice too!
I had a great time! I hope I said hello. I can't remember all the people I meet but there was a bunch of us in Topeka. The event was a little overwhelming for me I seemed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time the entire time (on the track and off). At least I didn't crash the truck on the way home!!
I hope to attend next year!

First time at Nationals can be a lot to handle. By the time you find out what is going on, it is all over. The Pro Solo is a great way to get better. But, you will also be lost the first time. It gets better every year. Hope to be back better and faster next year.
Rod,
Good job for the second in ASPL. Racing in any form is harder than most people think.
How did you like the sound of the ASPL winner's red Z06? She had a set of our LG Long tubes and our custom "X" pipe on here car.
It is an 01 and dynoed at 380 rwhp, and 373 rwtq with just our headers and air intake. Her car had OVER 350rwtq from 3800rpm to 5700rpm. The hp peak (380rwhp) came at 6000rpm and flat from there to 6600rpm. Keep in mind that it is a 2001 Z06.
This is exactly the rpm range that is used the most in a solo II.
I will save you a set for next year. What headers did you have on the car? and did you ever dyno it. I would be interested to know.
Congratulations on both of your finishes.
Thanks,
Lou Gigliotti LG Motorsports

I think a lot of people are confused. SS, ASP ASPL, SM2...you might explain to everyone what each class is.
SS, (Super Stock) I believe had 52 cars. That's like the pre RX7TT days. I believe the guy that won SS last year finished well down the list. Lots of hot shoes in SS this year. Had to be one of the toughest classes at Nationals.
Were there any weather issues this year?
Bob

Our local hotshoe, Tom Berry, raced in ESP (Fbodies) in a borrowed car and placed first. However, he was protested due to an illegal camber mod done to the car. That's gotta suck.
My 1st experience with a big autox was a National Tour event about 12 years ago. I'd just started autox'ing and was the slowest car in A Stock. During impound a guy from the national office looked over my car and it was missing a shim. He said if this were the Nationals I'd be protested.
No one in the class would protest me so some local SCCA a-hole assesed me a 10 sec penalty for each day. Bad enough I was in last place...
Never felt the same about the SCCA after that experience. They continue to show me why!
To answer your question there were no problems with weather. Tuesday and Wednesday were nice and a little on the warm side.
The guy that won last years SS class is John Ames, he finished second this year and is somewhat of a legend I hear. He has won at least 8 championships if I am not mistaken.
Don't be down on SCCA because of the actions of a few. Some folks are incredible competitive and make it less fun for all but most people are VERY friendly and helpful!!
