I just got back from the track and very disappointed. 02 Z, the only mod I had was the zip tie. I didn’t expect to have great ET’s with the stock tires, but my trap speed is horrible. Here is my first run;
Bradenton, FL Temps were about 80
60’ 1.966
¼ 12.954
MPH 108.51
I had a few more runs where the 60’ were 2.0’s (depending if I left traction control on/off), but traps remained in the 109’s regardless. I put the lid back on the air box just to make sure that wasn’t effecting anything, but the traps remained in the 109’s. I was expecting to see at least a 113-115. The car feels strong, but do you think there could be some problem. It has 21k miles on it.
Rob, if you were just wringing it out a little at the track and not shifting hard, that could certainly attest to some loss in trap speed. The warm temps would also play a role but I'm guessing that if you shift a little harder next time, your times may go down 2 to 4 tenths and your traps will be in the mid teens.
Rob - I ran at Gainesville last winter and couldn't get traction because of the weather, about 48 degrees, but my trap speed was over 110 and that was backing off to keep the back tires from hopping around.
I also have an '02. Unless there's a problem, I suspect you should be at 113 to 115. Going again tonight (temp 92 degrees now) and hoping for some traction.

Weather has a lot to do with times and speeds. It's already starting to get humid here in Florida and it will only get worse as we move into summer. The high heat and humidity in Florida will easily add a second to your time and also reduce your trap speeds.
Keep practicing Daniel son! It will get better trust me my first time out i was running 13.05 at 112with a little practice and some mods im down to a 11.77 at 123.
Shoot, my first time I was do'in 13's.I got the Z down to 12.5 at 115.90 but still could not get traction.I'm still new at whole 300 plus footpounds torque at 2700rpm.Goodluck
I agree the weather now in Florida will kill your times and trap speed. But also you need to try and shift around 6500 and fast as you can. The rear should not break loose in your shifts unless you are shifting too slow(not smooth enough) and if your tire pressure is too high. You may experience some wheel hop during the shifts but you shouldn't break loose enough to let up in the Florida heat. I would make sure you heat the tires and try a longer burn, lower the tire pressure, and shift faster at the limiter. I know, its easier said then done but you'll get there with alot of seat time. Use these hot days to practice and in the winter go for you personal best. Goodluck.

Humidity will kill your top end and make the engine breath poorly. We raced for years on and off at Orlando and avoided the heat and humidity if I wanted to run fast.
Up here in the mountains when it gets humid my mph drops
3-4 mph. So when it's hot and humid I don't race. Why waste my time and whip ass on the car.
Need more information. For me it comes down to
TIRES TIRES TIRES
fully inflated, low 13's. 20lbs, mid 12's. sticky tires, low 12's.
also seat time helps a lot. now i prefer a 20 min. rush at the
auto-x rather than 12 sec. in a straight line.
