Tight engines

Has anyone noticed that your engine gets better times after say 1500 or 3000 miles on it? Mine has 700+ and at an idle I'm leaving the line as I had planned the 1st time out and ran 13 flat all day at 108/109 mph. 60' times consistent 2.10-2.20. Had problems with high engine temps of 220 on every run due to long lines and slow moving.

But had lots of runs. The track here in Bristol is about 1650' above sea level also. I also had some old fuel in the car I burned off which was from November/01.

Just reminds me of my then new 1990 ZR1 which was a complete dog (for the bucks) until I got 3000 miles on it then it began to wind up and pull.

Any comments appreciated.

Yes, as posted before (by others), the LS6 engine seems real tight during break-in and may take many thousands of additonal miles to "loosen up". This I think is also evident in dyno tests.

This may be especially true for the '02s with the new rings and polymer coated pistons to reduce oil consumption and piston slap during warmup respectively. That's "my theory" anyway.

Dsinned:

Agree. The reason I was suspicious was 1st and 2nd wind up quickly and nice but 3rd sorta labored over 6000+ and of course I was into 4th going through the traps at over 5000 and the low mph. I'm just going to have to go for a trip in car when I find the time and put some miles on it and report back.

I know for a fact this car is much faster new then my ZR1 or as far as that goes any new factory car I've ever owned.

Thanks again. BTW, I blew off all the cars I raced, Mustanges mostly so I can't complain. Had to keep up the pride.

The best I ever did in my '90 ZR-1 was about 13 flat at 111. With my Son driving the same car last year, he turned a 12.78 his first time drag racing at the same strip. We are taking my new Z to the strip next Sunday to give it a go again. Think I should let him try to better his time in my new Z?

If you leave the a/c on when you are in line, it will keep the fans on. Different event but we where at Road atlanta this w/e. It was 95 out today. Another Z06 driver told us to leave the a/c on for the entire session. Never had hi water temp. Now the oil and tranny where a different story.

Best be careful about leaving the A/C on. Several guys did on Friday afternoon and the were told to "turn them off or get out of the staging area". Causing too much water overflow I think. TSTAT and fan controller will do the job or LS1/6 edit changing blower temps.
