This subject has probably been beaten to death. But, here I go...
I would love to use a dedicated competition tire for HPDE participation, but I have no trailer or tow vehicle (1+ to 4+ to 9-14 hrs away from tracks of choice) and loath reducing the life of a good competition or R tire by using it on the hwy.
Any thoughts on the above tires? (I'm using stock Z06 rims with GY SCs in 275 F / 295 R size at present.)
Thanks!

I just put some PSP's on all 4 corners of my Z. I debated on witch tire to get Nitto's or PSP's. I love these PSP's but 1 thing about them they are not as soft as the Nittos. I can still spin throught 1st and 2nd easy. As for performance they are awsome on the twisties.

PSP?

The Nitto 555RII has worked wonderfully as a track tire for me so far. I have also heard great things about the Toyo RA1. I drive my Nittos as a daily driver tire as well as taking them out on the track. If you want a dedicated track tire, think about upgrading to a set of the hooisers.

...oh, PSIIs *duh* Pilot Sport IIs. I was confused by the redundancy, i.e. "Pilot Sport PS2" = Pilot Sport Pilot Sport II.
I have PSIIs on my Z. However, I would not recommend them for racing. I use them because they have a relatively high tread wear & temperature rating which is optimal for a daily driver. Furthermore, they are one of the better Z tires for water management (Denver = snow/water). Lastly, I like the look of the extra width:
Front = 275/40
Rear = 315/30
I am really pleased with this setup. I just got back yesterday from Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, AL. It was 500 miles, one-way back to Indianapolis. It pulls behind the car very well - very stable. Lots of room for tools and stuff. The draw-bar locks to the hitch, the trailer locks to the ball, and the tool box has a lock on it.
This is the ideal setup for me. I can't store a full size car trailer at my house and my truck isn't powerful enough to tow one with my car on it anyway. I would basically have to get another house (or pay for storage, which I won't do), another truck, and a trailer to move up to the "next level". No thanks! This works out great!
This allows me to take my T1 spec CCW wheels which I bought used (17"x10" front & 17"x11" rear) and run 315/35/17 Kumho V710 tires all around, like the T1 guys do. I am getting the tires used for $50 each, plus shipping. I get them with 3 or 4 heat cycles on them. You can't believe what this does for lap times at road courses. This weekend I was lapping guys who had head/cam/header mods, but didn't have this kind of rubber. My engine is a stock 2001.
I forget what brand of trailer it is. I could fill you in on the details if you are interested - just email me.
Good luck to you.

I strongly recommend getting dedicated race wheels & tires. Either CCW, Kodiaks or Circle Wheels with Hoosier, Kuhmo or Goodyear race rubber in A's or R's.
Tire size selection is another but critical topic we can discuss later.
Then depending on budget you have 3 choices
1. Install a D'lan or Draw Tite hitch and use a modified SUV/Truck game carrier as a "Tire Tail" OR
2. Pull a small tire trailer
3. Use a tow vehicle with either an open Aluminum or enclosed trailer.

I'm running RA1s. Took them to the track last weekend for the first time. Incredible difference. Other vettes were going sideways in front of me while I was in total sunday driving cruise mode.
That and mine seem to be wearing exceptionally well.
I replied PS2's, which is what I'll buy when my MX's are totally gone. I answered that based on running the same tire on street and track.
I have run my MX's on the track, and they do okay. Once they get hot they get very greasy and become "exciting" to drive. A friend of mine ran the One Lap of America last year in a Vette and they ran the PS2's for the entire event. He was amazed how well they stood up - this was a pretty high HP (500+) car being driven very hard (they finished 3rd overall) plus lots of street driving in between. Enough to convince me that the extra $$ for the PS2's is worth it.
Normally, I run Kumho 710s on CCW Sportsters at the track. Awesome grip, but they go away quickly.
