Track Events

The biggest thrill that I have had out of owning a Z06 is running it on a race track. I am a beginner having completed the first Driver's Ed Training at Carolina Motor Sports Track. It is a very technical 2 1/2 mile track with 14 turns located in Kershaw, SC.
A lot of Porches, some Farraris, a Lotus, about 5 Vets and an assortment of other cars and dedicated race cars. Thank goodness the Porche guys are not snobs and welcome you to run with them because these guys are heavy into this stuff.
Do not try this if you are driving a garage queen. You spend about 30 mins on the track at a time, 5 times a day as a beginnner and most of it at or as near the red line as possible.
On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being a double climax with______ (fill in the blank), this rates as a 9.9. The day at the track cost me $180 but is much cheaper when you hook up with one of the Porche Club or Mustang Club sponsored events. You also get a neat picture of your car on the track.
Anyway, I came across this website and thought I would pass it along if anyone was interested. http://hpdguide.com. You can also get videos of most of the major tracks that show you the way around... the lines etc. that you can watch before you go to get most out of your experience. I can find the web address if anyone is interested. BTW Carolina Motor Sports Track also has a web site.

Mash...

I concur!

I remember both firsts...sex and track events. I babbled like a fool after the track event for the whole week end. My reaction to my first sexual encounter was "Is that all there is to it?"

The sex got better, but so did the track events.

OK, now I gave everyone some really good material for humorous comments, didn't I?

So were your pads shot after the first day??
That track eats them. Love the kink though, but hate the little autocross section.

Were you there in November when the brand new M3 broke loose on the Kink and went almost 60 yards and ended up on the tire barrier? I couldn't belive how far he had gone before hitting the tire barrier enough to knock it over and run up on it. He said he was doing about 130.
I think my pads are ok. My tires don't show much wear but the surface is pitted. I'm gong to have to get some track tires when I figure out what to get. John at CCW suggested 330/30's X12 on 18 inch rims on the back and 305's on the front on 18 inch rims but I have seen where others have had tire rub and had to remove thier rear cooling ducts to fit the tires.

That track is fun.
The kink is key and some folks don't realize how to setup for it and the following turn in my mind is throw out anyway.
Where the two road's come together and on the true apex you need to actually apex late otherwise the car get's unsettled (probably what happened to the M3) as you track out to the ragged edge.
My old vette I used to go through there at like 120+ and it was harry even with race tires.
