Dave-
See my thread re: Winterfest at Sebring Jan. 23-26. Would love to join like-minded Z06 owners at the track.
Most of the events I participate in are a function of either the Porsche or BWM CCA. We don't currently own a Beemer (I sold my '91 M5 to buy the Z06). However, we do own a Boxster S but that car does not see as much track time as the Z06. I have never been turned down by either car club to participate in an event although they provide advanced info to their membership and these events tend to fill up fast.
Also, living in Youngstown you can get to Nelson Ledges for Fun Dayz. Open lapping, no open wheel cars. You see everything from NASCAR Trucks to Ferraris to Vipers to Nissan Sentra SE-Rs. You get the picture. Tons of fun, diverse cars, most people are there to enjoy the day (although occassionally you get some junior Mario's that can be problematic, but they usually wreck early and are done for the day) and inexpensive (last year it was $100 for the day, gates open at 9am, track opens at 10am, closes at 4pm). While the grounds are, to put it politely, primitive, the track has been repaved in some key areas and is one of the faster 2 mile circuits around. We go there at least 3-4 times per year.
Lastly is ViperDays. I went to an event at Putnam Park last year and it was a hoot. Needless to say, Vipers out the wazoo but next in number were Corvettes (modified coupes or stock Z06s like mine). It was terrific to get on the track with our Viper brethren and go, go, go.
Here's a link, that's me with the 1:21:03 in the unlimited group (they put me in unlimited because I was running Hoosiers)
ViperDays results- Putnam Park
This is one of the most well run events I have had the pleasure of participating in. Although expensive, you get in car telemetry for lap times- I will definitely go back. Nice track too.
Sorry to drone on so long. Keep me posted regarding Watkins Glen or any other event you plan on attending
