Track junkies... watch those tie rods!

Wow! I've had my new Z06 to 6 track events and the rear tie rods are already shot!

I noticed the rear getting oddly wiggly under throttle after corner apexes at the last event. After a quick inspection today, the rod ends have too much play; I can wiggle the rear wheels pretty easily.

Wholly random rear wheel steering Batman

Moog end links are going on next week!

VB&P sells these HD Moog units.

Sometimes the heat from the discs will fry them

LAPD carries the Baer Bump Steer Kit which are hemi jointed spherical bearings.

Is there any downside to using these?

No, unless class rules prohibit it. Of course you have to do some measurement and alignment to set them up (Baer Bump Steer Kit).

The Moog units are HD and will last much longer than OEM.

As a lower cost alternative, I have the rubber bushings in my stock tie rod ends wrapped in heat sleeve (have to take them apart to slip this on) and they have lasted two seasons now with no play.

We have a tie rod and ball joint heat shield set (pre-cut and ready to install) almost ready for sale in our store. We should have it up by this week. It's made of very heat resistant material, similar to what you'd find in spark plug sleeves. I can offer someone a discount on a full set in return for some good digital pictures of the pieces installed.

I wrap mine in Thermotec heat wrap and secure it with mechanics wire. So far so good.

Heat tubing and wrap it around the tie rod then safety wire or tie wrap it. You don't need to remove them then.

I'd be happy to get you pics, especially considering the EXTREMELY EXCELLENT customer service that you've provided me recently (yes, I finally got the right screws for the pedals from your supplier ).

I need the shields by Friday though...

Send me a PM if you are interested...

Pete

I run the VB&B HD moogs, make certain that the ones you get have been drilled and tapped all the way down, had one that was not. I could not dial in the toe or camber. I was almost thinking that I had aproblem with my steering rack. Just something to consider since all cars not exactly the same.
