Are any of you aware of a club/group that rents out Grattan, Gingerman, Mid Ohio, Road America, or Putnam race tracks? I ride my motorcycle at these tracks, and want to give the Z06 a try, but don't know of anybody that I can sign up with.
I see the Justin Bell school info in FL, but that is far away, costs a lot, and you can't use your own car.
I am interested in either a track-time only day, or even a one-day track school in the MI area.
I run with the Porche Club in my area. They are very active in track events and "Driver's Education". They welcome other cars to run with them. You could get shut out if they didn't have enough spaces for club members but usually there is a good variety of cars present. Also check with the track and see when they have open track day for Driver's Ed, Solo and Testing. After so many DE classes and when your instructor thinks you are ready, he'll sign you off for solo. Of course if you want to Club Race, you will need a Porsche or BMW. Another source is Driving School with Good Guys. Check their web site out to see what tracks they will be instructing at. I Can't believe sometimes that we have a car that will kick everybody's ass and t here is no Corvette Cub organized track events. Maybe somewhere on a local level. My club is scared shitless of a race track.
It costs me $205 to spend the day at the track with the Porsche Club in my area. $190 for members.
Hope this helps./Mash
ARWUN,
The BMW CCA of Mich. rents Grattan, Gingerman and in the past MIS every year for 2 day (weekend) drivers schools.
See www.motorcitybmwcca.org and www.bmwcca.org
The other chapters of the BMW CCA rent Road America, Mid-Ohio, Nelson Ledges and road courses all accross the USA and Canada.
Its a great club. I have been participating in their schools for 5 years with our M3 and recently with the 02 Z06.

If you are interested in Gingerman I have two suggestions.
First they have CGI Motorsports Driving School at least one time per month. They promise lots of track time and will provide instructors if you want them. The cost is fairly cheap, around 200 I think.
Your second option is open track night on most Wednesdays. For 50 dollars you get about 1.5 - 2 hours of track time.
Thanks, guys. A lot of good suggestions. I have researched them all, and am considering going to Road America w/ speedseekers in April (although the weather is a little iffy @ RA during that time of year), going with CGI to Gingerman sometime during the season (many choices of dates), and going to Grattan with the BMW club sometime (still waiting to hear back from the Motor City Chapter. The Windy City Chapter has gotten back with me and answered a lot of my ?'s).
Have any of you had problems with going to a BMW event without joining the club? They told me that it was not necessary, but that a member would get first pick, and they could not guarantee me a spot if I didn't become one.
I also liked tracquest's event at Mid Ohio, but it conflicts with speedseekers' @ Road America. Plus, I thought that $500 seemed a little steep for two days. I have ridden my bike at Mid Ohio, and didn't like it because of the cement patches that they put there for cars, but I would like to try the Z06 at that track sometime.
