I just picked up my new Z on Saturday morning. I drove it home from Indianapolis (about 230 miles)and took it easy to break it in. It didn't feel all that strong but it seemed to "wake" up with some city driving on Sunday and Monday. I wanted to get some times with the car completely stock and since it probably won't be long until I start adding performance goodies and since the weather is only going to get warmer for the next several months , I figured this was the best time to go. So with all of 360 miles on the odometer , I headed to the track. The weather was decent , about 65 degrees , a slight head-wind and I heard that the corrected altitude was about +1600 feet. There were some scattered sprinkles , so I'm sure it was a little humid. The first three runs weren't pretty , a lot of wheel-hop and a couple of missed shifts. The recently broken left foot , sprained left knee and ankle weren't helping. But then it all came back to me. Here's the forth run:
60' - 1.843
660' - 7.825
- 92.13 mph
1320 - 12.091
- 115.58 mph
My car is as stock as stock can be. The only thing I've done since picking it up is add half a tank of Amoco Ultimate. It still has the same oil that was in the block when it rolled out the door at the assembly plant. If the track had been in better shape I would have run 11's almost right off of the showroom floor. The tires spun very hard into 2nd and pretty hard into 3rd. I know from my '02 Z06 that the I was losing close to .2 seconds due to the tires spinning on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. If there is good weather next Tuesday I'll try one more time , but I can't wait to start making this car even faster!
