Very cool Road America video with an original Cobra

I found this on the other forum and thought it was cool. I love how this car rockets off the corners. It's amazing how it handles too. I think he runs out of gear on the long straights though. Being that it's a vintage car, I don't think he wants to keep the tach pegged for too long on the straights.

BTW.. You need Macromedia Flash installed to view it.

That was awesome! I enjoyed how he passes the Cobra R like it was sitting still.

You can really tell the power when he comes off of turn 5 heading up the hill to the Toyota bridge. I love the way the car sounds too when he's blipping the throttle downshifting coming down into turn 5.

For a comparison, check out Todd Lamb's (Lambinator) videos from last year at the Speedseekers event. He has some of the best onboard, non racing videos that I've seen at Road America, especially for a Corvette/Z06. You'll see some with Ron Marks' Rippied.Z06 as well.

FYI.. S3 is Todd's car (yellow Z06) and DRM is Ron Marks' car (silver Z06). Apparently, Ron's car wasn't up to what his car is now or even was at last years One Lap of America - Cannonball run where they took 2nd place overall. Neither is Todd's for that matter with the LPE big bore kit. Just do a search on Lambinator and see what he had done to his car over the winter.

I'm heading up there tomorrow. I certainly hope that it doesn't rain.

Oh.. For those of you that don't know the infamous kink, check out this still that I captured from the Cobra video. This still frame is right after the kink. It always amazes me when I go through the kink and see all the tire marks heading off the track into the wall (clip is from just after the kink). It is a corner that you cannot take lightly because there is no runoff room.

I just watched it off the improvedtouring site. That car has plenty of power as you guys mentioned coming off turn 5 and the heel toe sounds great. That is one bad ass car. Road America is a great track for a powerful car such as the Cobra. Looking at the trees along the track you can see he was moving along plenty good. My dad is friends with a guy that raced a 289 Cobra in the 70's. He was big with Triumphs in the 60's and now has one that he vintage races. Hopefull I'll see a Cobra at the SVRA Mid Ohio race in June.

Great car and vid . Thanks.

I am trying to learn how to open the wheel like he does coming off the apex in each turn. It looked like a good line he was running.

Yeah.. He's running a good line. The only thing that I do different is I stay further to the right coming down the straight between the turn 3 and 5 going under the Sargento bridge.

I had been watching races for years up at RA and just got to try it myself recently. Because I've been a spectator, I knew the track layout very well. The only turn that really surprised me when I drove it for the first time was turn 5. The elevation drops a lot quicker than I thought when you're coming into the braking zone. Also, because it's at the end of the one of three long straights, you're really cooking coming into turn 5. We see speeds in excess of 140 mph. You really can't tell either in the videos.

The kink is scary only because of the consequences of not getting it right. It's really not that tough of a turn.
