Saw this vid and thought others should see what not do to if someone crashes in front of you.
I am sure the guy just wanted better video, but stopping there is very dangerous.
The guy that crashed reportedly spun 2 times before that. It is usally policy for PDA (and others) to kick you if you spin twice, but I heard that one of the spins was missed by PDA.
BTW - I heard that the video guy got kicked from Watkins Glen on Monday/Tuesday PDA event for unsafe driving.
As more and more people join HPDEs and think that they dont need training more and more incidents are gonna happen.
Why were those cars parked so close to the track???
They were not parked. They were staged for the next session that was to start within the next couple of laps. I was there, but did not see the incident. They had two groups of green/white cars, just too many for the instructor pool to handle. And a larger than usual amount of kids from the city with cars they could not handle. It was just pure luck that the guy staging the cars had stepped away to confer with another track worker or he would been in the middle of this. The person did spin out twice before but as mentioned above the PDA group was not aware of both of them.
I then went up to the glen for Monday and Tuesday with PDA/NASA and they did a fantastic job or running the event.
Glad you had a good time at WGI - a great track. I ran with the advance group with SCDA and there were no incidents. Big enough track to spread people out I am sure helps too.
Plan to be back with PDA running one of the higer levels in July.
Would love to know what the instructor was saying to the driver after he pulled off the track, you see him grabbing the wheel on the guy, probably not real happy...

the instructor was a female. My friend said to me last night that she is a friend of his. He said she was yelling at him to get the eff out of the way and not stop there.
Im surprised they had a line of cars waiting to go on the track that close to cars already on the track like that. There is no way id be sitting at the front of that line that close to the track waiting to go on with AMATEURS driving.
Get the street racers off the street so thay can come crash on every lap on the track and take out other cars like this.

Was there also and never line up near the front for that reason. Good to be as far away from the action as possible, especially when its novice drivers
But how could that happen - I mean we all know 4WD is invincible... - right?
From what I was told after the fact, the person driving the car had done some severe HP increases to the car. He lost the car coming out of the turn onto the front straight and kept in the throttle all the way into hitting the cars. A classic case of driver error and this should have never happened.
Here's another example of a group not having a clue about saftey. The cars should have been stagged off of the track out of harms way.Morrons!.
I have been running with PDA for 7 years and they have an excellent record with huge groups of cars. Hind sight is always easier. I guess it took many years to find someone as out of control as that guy.
