Yeah I shot the video of the black Z06 sliding from the side and then IMV films combined my shot with there footage from behind. It was a sad moment for all Z06 drivers, lucky the driver walked away unharmed. Hopefully I will be posting some of my videos soon.
Thanks for the positive comments IMV does great work and has a lot more videos on there site.
Cool!! That's my EB Z06 in the begining.....I was talking with the guys from IMV for a while, they are cool and put together some great videos. Hope we see more.
The driver of the red stang is okay but he totalled his car a week later I heard.
The Black 02 Z06 that hit the wall was in bad shape. You only see the front but after the initial impact it spun around and kissed the wall with the driver side rear fender as well. The drivers window was broken - due to helmet impact I would guess. Appeared it was his first trip to the track and more than likely had AH and TC off. He nearly hit the wall doing his burnout.
The guy sliding in the road course... well, after about 5 hours of the same track you get a little bored and push the car a little more just to have some fun ;-) There were about 18 drivers and I could have run twice as much as I did but frankly got a little tired of it, maximum speed I could get out of the track was about 85mph. We had the track 6 hours and then jumped over to the drag strip.

Great video! Thanks for posting it. The black Z hitting the wall is a shame...

My heart just about stopped seeing that Z go into the wall. I go to Gainesville every so often and will never run in the left lane. I just about lost it twice when I had my WS6, for some reason when you get around the 60' mark of that lane you start to feel the tires breaking loose.

Seeing that black Z hit the wall is really starting to scare me. I am heading to the track for the first time March 13th. I surely do not want the outcome that this poor fella saw. However, I am smart enough to at least put it in competitive mode.

I was in your same shoes about two weeks ago. I witnessed that crash and then went to the dragstrip the following weekend for the first time ever. I had the crash in the back of my mind, but I also used comp mode like you stated above....and had no problem.

Just remember, if you: miss a shift, you have wheel hop, your rear end starts to swing out a bit....get off the gas! No sense wasting your run....you can try it again in a few minutes.
1/2 tank of gas or less
remove anything you can
disable the passenger air bag (heck, saves you a few hundred if you have an unfortunate accident right!)
Air pressure to around 18psi
Don't necessarily take the first exit off the track, coast down to a later exit to let the air cool your motor down between runs.
If you have to wear a helmet, practice around town somewhere so you can get used to hearing the engine while wearing your helmet.
I've been to the track twice (Bowling Green and then Gainesville), both times I saw a Z go into the wall. Really wakes you up and makes you realize how serious it is. Pay attention and have fun! My best so far was at Gainesville: 12.542 @ 114.92 mph
It's kinda fun if you get some wheel hop or screw up a shift and a normal C5 (non-modded) gets ahead of you, you can chase them down and win easily.

Thanks for the info. No helmet is required at the track that we are going to. I think that the first couple of runs will not be from dumping the clutch, just letting it out and getting on the gas. (thanks case2307 ) This way I can get used to the track. I have launched the car several times from red lights on the street, but never at the track. My friends and I have rented the track for three hours on the 13th so hopefully I will get some good practice. There will only be 15 of us, so the more runs the better.
