Those of you old enough to remember the old Dragnet series are going to get just what Joe Friday used to say, "just the facts maam, just the facts." This is not intended to be a kill, as I was just on a fact finding mission. The mission, to find out who had more BIGEND...
Man I still think the Viper is the meanest looking thing on the road...Too bad I am just a Chevy lover...
As I am on the toll road coming from Orange County towards my house, I notice something low and red way in front of me...I have to cruise at 90 to chase him down and as this is a heavily patrolled area for radar, I figured he would get the beam before me so I just kept getting after him...
As I am getting close I notice his license plate, "FSSSSST" and then I hear him downshift so I know I have found a live one...When I get next to him both he and his lady smile at me and as I am smiling I motion to GO...I fully expected to lose as I know their topend is supposed to be higher than ours...It could not have been a more even start from about 85...For a second or two nothing changed, I then started to pull on him a little and after I get about a car length on him, I then start to pull him pretty hard until I can see him in my rear view mirror and he was on my left...We go to 140ish and shut it down and he then pulls up next to me and they smile again and then he exits the toll road...
If anybody out there in ZO6LAND knows this guy, tell him I had fun and hope he did too...Judging from his smile, he did not seem to take it personal...I wonder if he noticed my license plate...UBNZO6D !!!
What a fun past 7 days...A Lambo and a Viper...
Greg

I havn't had the chance at any exotics. I did blow away this guy in his Beemer. He thought he was so cool. I baited him perfect. Right at 65-70 MPH. I blasted him in 3rd, speed shifted 4th and was gone. The car pulls hard with the 391's. Plus he maid the mistake of messing with the car when still cool. This thing screams with the LGM LT's, no cats and Stinger.
Waiting for viper or Porsche.
As far as the gears. I love them. Now I can use 6th gear. Car runs like a two stroke dirt bike.
I had the joy of racing a 2001 911 Turbo on Saturday night. Got gas next to him and he actually picked a race with me! Asked him if he paid $130k for it and he said around there. I had a 1/4 tank of gas and once I found out he wanted to race I didn't even bother getting gas. Gotta make it look good for the camera!
He had an automatic, but it was still fun pulling him like 2+ car lengths through every run. He was amazed at how fast the Z06 was. He might not of known how to drive but it was still fun. Got it all on video, too.
I had a similar experience yesterday with a 911 Turbo. We hooked it up at around 45 mph first time. I expected him to really jump so I spared nothing and was really suprised at how fast he was in my mirror. We came to a stop sign and both got into it from a dead stop. I jumped out ahead immediately and did not get out of it until about 120. I shut it down and it wasn't until them that he was able to pass me. I thought he would give me a better run.
Thats funny - the same thing kind of happened to me.
On my way home from the gym the other night i pulls up to a stop light just to catch a glimpse of this black beauty whip around my backside and pull behind the van next to me. It was the turbo 911 and I wasnt sure If it was my calf workout or the adrenaline but my calves started to shake a little!
So I look over and he doesnt even look at me - Im smiling but nothing so I figure it's just chance. - No sooner does the light turn green but the dude smokes me as Im putting away from the light and I hear him chirp it into second - Im like I cant believe what a Toolbox I am - I missed my shot
Well - less than a block later chance would have it that we come up one another red light - both of us stopped in the 1 position - Ive been wondering if the headers, exhaust, and vararam did anhything so I pop it in competetive mode and Im ready. Light goes greeen and It's about nose to nose - I hear him chirp to second and Im slightly (inches in front) and as I shift Ill be damn if I didnt bust sideways and my active handling kicked on momentarily - but old second still pulled me out - I got the gas back and was close to a car at the end of second and once I hit third I was walking away steadily. When I hit a little more than 3 car lengths I shut it down seeing as how I was just about twice the posted speed limit - and I usually dont do this but it was my shot to be
So he flies by me because I brake pretty hard and the turkey just takes off in front of me down a side street -no waves or nothing - what a jerk.
Yeah, I'm waiting on my chance at a Viper too. The Viper boys in my area piss me off. Saw one at the light the other day and taunted him a bit. He looks over at me and asks me how much money I have.
I hear through a friend of a friend he wants $500 to race??
What a joke.
It's these kinds of situtations that make me want to drop $20k and call MTI for a 427.
Greg just read about your two races, Countach and Viper. I'm close by in orange county. My Z is only a couple of months old so haven't had many chances to street race. I'll look for you driving around I guess I'll be able to tell by your license plate. I will have mine soon NV plate O2CULUZ.
Let me tell you that in Miami when action like that happens,I don't know where the hell they come out of the trap from all directions whenever I get this action with Porshes, BMW and yes Vipers!
they all join the party till it gets hot and they wave like ok, it's down to the big boys Zo6 vs. Viper but why don't they give up after 165?
must we have to allways take it to the death for what?I ask well you know why!we know that feeling don't we pure illegall adrenalin! like a coronary happening uder the hood of your car the hood is bouncing up and down the long whoopi doos that give you the edge and then stop get out and you can't feel your legs cause they are shaking and you say whow ;got to give this habit up someday it's killing me i'm getting too old for this s---t
Just a sobering reminder for those of us who are street race speed junkies. Not trying to say dont race in the streets, and there is certainly nothing wrong with pushing the speed up into the triple digits, but the 140's? Please be careful, or you could end up like this Viper on the Dallas North Tollway, or worse...they may not be able to pull you (or your racing opponent) out alive. I know many don't want to think about their own mortality, but think about the other person's...sometimes that helps me drive a little less crazy.
Viper Crash
Warning: some of the photos are a little disturbing, but at least the two guys made it out alive!
