What gives? (slow times)

I have ran my parents' '01 ZO6 at the track a few times with less than desirable results. My best ET in the car is a 12.9 @ 109 on a 2.08 60'.

I took the car out again this past Friday night. My best run was as follows:

60' 2.151
330' 5.673
1/8 8.560
MPH 86.37
1000' 10.982
1/4 13.035
MPH 110.43

I was happy that it gained a mph, but 110 is still pretty sad from what I've seen. I shifted right at 6500rpm on every run and I'm a decent driver/shifter, so I don't think that was the problem (aside from the 60'). Granted I don't have much seat time in this car, but I would think the 1/8 mph should be in the 88-89 range and the 1/4 mph in the 112-114 range.

The car is 100% bone stock. The motor was in the 220* range (ran it almost immediately after a 2 hour drive to the track). I have seen other bone stock ZO6s run at the same track and trap 113+ range and it was a cool night. Question is, has anyone been pulling this crappy of times in a bone stock ZO6? Also, does anyone have any experience w/heat soak affecting their ET/MPH? I know the car should have run better had I given it a chance to cool down - but what it should have done and what it did are two different things. Any thoughts? Thanks.

definetly let the car cool down before beating on it . let it cool for awhile and try to focus on driving the car like shifting, are you gonna powershift through the gears ? if so you better have some fast feet . are you gonna warm up your tires ? you should are you tires inflated properly for 1/4 track use for better 60 fts . it takes alot of practice , keep practicing and i bet you'll see you times drop considerably ( boy i wish my parents had a zo6 i'd have a quick disconnect nitrous system on it for dates)

There is your answer these car don't like to run hot. We had the same exact problem until we change the stat and programmed the fans to come on earlier. Now we hot lap it with no problems

Thanks for the reply. I know I should have let the car cool down, but I didn't have time (was kind of a last minute decision to go to the track and I got there kinda late). I was just curious if others had real world experience w/heat soak on these cars. I know my car will fluctuate 1-2 mph w/engine temperature, but I don't know much about how these LSx motors respond to heat etc.

I cleaned the tires off before every run. I won't powershift their car because, well...its not mine heh. I have made over 400 passes in my car, so I have some experience, but these ZO6s are a totally different animal. Maybe the car is just that slow - good 'ol GM quality control.

c'mon your abusing there car already by beating on it at the track what's wrong with just going all out and power shifting the z . and as far as gm quality control goes i doubt that your parents z is a reject . i don't mean to be cocky in any way when i am posting i'm here as a friend . i believe you need more seat time in the z and you'll be kicking ass . (by the way look at RANGERS ET'S with his basically stock set up and you'll see it takes alot of seat time ) goodluck kidd.

Power shifting kills synchros and is hell on trannies - the gains aren't worth increasing the chance of breaking their car. I personally haven't gained anything on my car by powershifting - maybe the ZO6 is different but I can't imagine more than a 1 mph gain. It should be trapping higher w/out power shifting - I'll try letting it cool down next time I take it out and see what it gains. And easy w/the kid remarks Johnny - you only have a year and a half on me.

Another thing to think about when comparing the car to other times is what altitude you are running out. If my memory serves me correctly the tracks in AZ are high.

The correction factor to sea level would be .9835 for ET & 1.0171 Mph

Which would be 12.8199225 ET & 112.318353 MPH

http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/misc/altitude.html

Here is the link if your interested

I've never been a big fan of correction factors. But thanks anyways! I have never found them too be too accurate - altitude will affect ET/MPH, but I think its mostly there to inflate egos.
