What's your best time at Open Track events?

I see TONS of quarter mile times here, and rarely see road racing times so I thought I'd kick this one off.

I attended a road racing event (technically a "driving school", so we pack our own Hot Lap timers) over the weekend at Buttonwillow Speedway just outside of Buttonwillow, California. My previous visit to Buttonwillow netted a best lap time 2:19, and yesterday I was able to shave that down to a 2:15! For comparison - Vipers with Hoosiers are running about 2:08-2:10, with a full race Viper running a 1:58!!

I'm running 100% stock suspension and tires, Competition Mode, and slight mod's on the engine - FLP Exhaust through Stock TI's, and Haltech T1C - no tuning yet.

If you track your car, please post your best times, car set-up and any tips.

Currently I run primarily at Buttonwillow and Willow Springs, but I'm planning on attending events at Laguna Seca, Thunderhill and Sears Point in the near future. Info for any of these tracks would be enlightening!

I ran out there last year for the first time. Check the opentrackchallenge.com website for everybody's times in T1.
We had to run 140 treadwear tires and all the Z06's were stock the lead viper was totally moded.
Should give you a good idea for those days.
Hard to compare times from different days if that is what you are doing. Might be ballpark but to many track and condition variables.
Also Buttonwillow all depends on which config you run.

I turned 2:07's at Thunderhill.
Got caught in traffic and couldn't get better than a 1.36 at willow springs but a low 32 or 33 is in there easy.
Pahrump was like 1:53's or 52's I think.
And Buttonwillow was like 2:09's and 2:00's if I recall.
Anway check website.

Most of the quicker drivers are pretty seasoned (I am) and eventhough new tracks and first time on them for many of us the times were pretty good. Probably 1-2 seconds to be gained with more time.

Thanks, I'll check that site.

I think I ran a 1:46 at Willow Springs last time I was there which was also first track event I did in about 10 years! 1:36 is a very respectable time there, IMO. I'm running the big track on 12/12 and the Streets on 12/13 - which is a Corvette Challenge race with trophies so I'm all over it. Got my first trophy at Buttonwillow back in November!

Anyway, thanks again for the info. Anybody interested in tracking their car in non-sanctioned events in Southern Cal, feel free to contact me. I'll get you in touch with some great resources to get some free instruction and seat time on the track. No substitute for seat time!!!

Those viper times arent all that impressive. Ive done 2:10-11s in my 95 RX7TT on intake and exhaust only.

I cant wait to get the Z down there this coming spring with NASA.

I was turning consistent 2:04s at Thunderhill last Sunday on street tires (bone stock 03Z). Im told I had a high/mid 2:03 in there, but I didnt get two of em in that range.

That was running the bypass CCW.

Well, spent the day at Willow Springs today - total Fun!!!

Shaved my previous time of 1:46 down to 1:38 today - very pleased about that!!! Viperguys are running as low as 1:29 there - it's a very quick track.

I also managed to shave my brakes today - the fronts are shot and not sure if I'll be ablt to get them repaired trackside tomorrow to get in day 2 of racing here at Willow Springs. That will teach me to travel without parts!

I haven't run Thunderhill yet - I may run Sears Point and Laguna Seca in the next month or so.

Thanks for the NASA link Speedtoy, I'll check it out. I'm completely hooked at this point, and need to pursue some sanctioned club racing for sure.

The times we ran at several of the tracks (especially Thunderhill) were way slower than most had normally run there under better conditions. A number of the viper guys said they were 3-5 seconds off there normal times.
Tough to really compare alot of this on different days but should give folks an idea.
As for the good times you turned last weekend (the TT previous owner) come down and play and sign up for the event.
Come play with the big boys and see how you do on the same day.

Congrats by the way on improving your times. It's all about track time and practice.
