Why do vettes suck in the Rolex Series?

Everytime I watch this damn series the vettes suck ass. I know they have rules that make them noncompetitive but like what? Why would anyone want to run in this series when handicapped so bad? Shouldn't the series make a category for the Mazda and GTP Pontiacs to run in and let the Vettes run with the Porches and mudstains? Now I feel better having said that and can go back to the stupid race.

If I understand right they winning'st cars are penalized by adding weight and air restrictors.

Re: Why do vettes suck in the Rolex Series?

You have to win first. The question remains valid.

2007 Grand Am Rolex Series, GT Class, winning cars:

March 3 Mexico City, Mazda RX8

March 24 Homestead, Mazda RX8

April 28-29 Virginia International Raceway, Porsche GT3 Cup

May 19-20 Laguna Seca, Porsche GT3 Cup

May 28 Lime Rock Park, Pontiac GXP.R

June 9 Watkins Glen, 6 hours, Porsche GT3 Cup

June 23-24 Mid-Ohio, Porsche GT3 Cup

July 5 Daytona 250, Mazda RX8

July 14 Iowa, DP cars only

July 21-22 Barber Motorsports Park, Pontiac GXP.R

Aug. 3 Montreal, Quebec

Sept. 15 Miller Motorsports Park

Re: Why do vettes suck in the Rolex Series?

I know, they aren't even competitive therefore get zero air time on Speed. Mazda? Give me a break. For a RX8 to compete against a GT3 the modifications done to the RX and the penalties on the GT3 must be staggering. AND the RX8 and GTP are not sports cars either! This series suxs!

Re: Why do vettes suck in the Rolex Series?

I guess a Mazda 20B 2.0 liter Cosmo, 3 rotor engine with a 9.7:1 compression ratio making about 350 H.P.; a tube frame chassis; carbon fiber body, and a weight of 2,255 lbs., = zoom zoom.

Corvette's minimum allowed weight is 2,600 lbs. (Prep 1) or 2,700 lbs (Prep 2)

Porsche 997 GT3 Cup, minimum weight is 2,700 lbs. (Prep 1, U.S. Grand Am version) and must use an air inlet restrictor supplied by Grand-Am.

Prep 1 Unibody GT - This category is reserved for production cars with little or no modifications. Grand American will define each car separately and specify modifications individually.

Prep 2 Semi-Tube GT – This category is for cars with modified production or tube-frame chassis. They may be front-wheel drive cars converted to rear-wheel drive or they may be cars that require physical modifications to be competitive in GT. Specified tube-frame construction is allowed. Alternative engines from the original manufacturer may be approved.

Re: Why do vettes suck in the Rolex Series?

I got so frustrated with the Rolex Series rules a few years ago I stopped paying attention to it. I much prefer the SCCA World Challenge series where I feel the SCCA does a pretty good job of keeping the multitude of various makes in the GT and Touring classes competitive.
