This just happened last night...
I got out of work and I'm on my way to get a haircut. I'm driving down the street when I see a guy in an XLR (top down) pull up next to me at a red light. I roll down the window to complement the color he got because it was black like my Z. He had his music up loud and he didn't look like he heard me or cared about what I said. He looks at my car and nods as he looks forward and he inches forward.
At this point I put it in 1st waiting for the light to turn green. [ INSERT: you guys know what happened ]
I didn't take it up too fast... I let off when I was in 3rd @ ~3000 RPMs and I was ahead by about 10 car lengths.
XLR Driver was NOT a car guy. He was just some guy that bought himself an XLR, put chrome rims on it and thought he was the fastest thing on the planet. I've talked to other XLR owners who were very polite and smart -- this guy was not.
He pulled up next to me at the next red light and told me how he could have walked me like I was standing still - had he wanted to. I turned to him and said it was a nice car. He asked me if I knew what he had under the hood. I replied "yeah, you have a Northstar". He said it was a Corvette motor and that I only got ahead of him because he didn't want to "walk me like I was standing still".
This was one of those one-in-a-million kind of guys. He was not at all like other polite XLR owners I've met. I guess it's just been a while since I came across someone who was way off on another page like he was. Surprised me that someone could be so uninformed.
If someone says something good about my car I always thank them and answer any questions people have for me. You would think other people would be the same.
Found out it's not always like that.
