I was up at Sacto dragstrip last night putting my first passes on my SL65. While there, I ran into a great match: a black Z06 with intake/longtubes/catback and a T&T 100-shot. We were both on street tires, and the SL65 had a launch advantage while the Z pulled slightly harder once the juice engaged. The result was a series of great races!
Race 1: A nail-biter, with the SL beating the Z at the light and the Z gaining back some ground with each shift. At the end of the pass, the Z was moving faster but the SL was a carlength ahead...
Race 2: I redlighted and spun on the launch, and the Z had a lazy launch but a solid and quick run.
Race 3: I launched more carefully but didn't get on the gas quickly enough, and the Z quickly caught and passed me in 2nd. From there it was neck and neck all the way down the big end, with the Z holding onto a carlength lead as we crossed the line.
Race 4: The timeslip from this pass is missing, but the SL waltzed to an easy 11.8 victory as the Z06's Nitrous bottle finally ran dry and the MPH dropped to 118. The dragstrip was closing at this point anyway, so we shook hands and congratulated each other on our choice of vehicles - and agreed to do it again next time
Now we're both going to go do some mods. I've got drag radials waiting in the garage. I think the Z's going to look into a line lock and some DRs as well. Should be a fun rematch on the 23rd
I have just one vid from the night, which shows one of the Z-SL runs as well as what a race against a 13-sec car looks like
All in all, a good night of racing. I got 14 passes in 3 hours, and had a best of 11.7 and 126 (!!) mph. Can't wait to get back with drag radials and see what this car can -really- do
Uh, the original poster is the owner of the SL65, not the Z06. I think it's stock, and when the Z06 was spraying probably isn't known. So, is this SL65 AWD? Anyway, those are kick ass times. Didn't know MB made anything this fast. That motor sounds like it'd give the Blue Devil a run for it's money. But then again the Merc is probably around 4000 lbs, right?
The factory rates it at 604 HP and 738 ft/lbs. It's making considerably more power than that - the SL weighed in at 4500 lbs with half a tank of gas and no driver at the trackside scales.
The SLs are all RWD only, 5-speed automatic tranny. Mine was on the stock RE050 19" bridgestones, and I can't wait to see how it runs on drag radials
If you were going to do it again, would you buy the SL600 and sent it to Renntech or stick with the SL65? I know you have the S600 Renntech version. I have seen you at the MBfourm and at the track. Any noticable differences in engine/transmission performance?
I am debating and am looking at buying either. Just do not want to end up with one, regreting I did not buy the other. Funny, how that always happens.
I am not real crazy about the 19" rims on the SL65. Only, reason, the biggest problem that car has is traction. Not crazy about the composite brakes, due to fact I know a few GT2 owners that have moved back to regular rotors, due to failure, after dumping seventeen large.
Sounds like you guys had a great time, which is always a good thing. You definitely had the Z beat on the tree. Post some times when you get sticky tires and let us know how much time you pick up.

Does the 65 use the 5spd? My 500 has the 7spd auto in it.
...
Stunning car at 189 grand (or around there) ...
Holy Crap !
I gotta hand it to you Trey - whipping that car like it's a Camaro takes some balls. I think I would be too nervous to take a car like that to the drags (visions of breaking loose and heading for the wall - ouch $$$$$).
BTW - Nice times. And you nailed a couple of awesome reaction times too.
