Went to drags at Fontana yesterday with the 07 with some interesting and curious results...Made four runs with DA between 3500 & 4700...Temps between high 85 to 98 degrees on the last run...Smoking hot all day which made the cars' temp at launch of 210 or higher on all runs...60 fts from 2.04 to 2.10...The odd things was that it NEVER got into 4th gear which is probably attributable to the high operating temps...The other odd is on the 4 runs it gained 28.5, 29.5 and 2 runs of 31.50 mph gains in the second half...ETs were 12.41, 12.20 12.11 & 12.10 with a best MPH of 123.24 which happened to be one of the 31.5 MPH gains on the last run before I left because of the heat...Just too frickin hot to mount any kind of an attack on the track...Since it was the first time with the car I asked quite a few drag racers that said their mph were down 5 to 6 mph but that is certainly no consolation just an excuse...Left @ noon because of the heat...I should have gone earlier in the season when it was cooler, but oh well...No power shifting by the way, it just didn't want to rev quickly in the 1st and 2nd and it showed with a best 1/8 mph of 92 mph with 3 runs @ 91+ mph...Any thoughts from you drag racers ?
Greg

Greg,
I don't think you did too bad considering the heat and D/A.
Any normally aspirated motor is going to take a huge hit in power under those conditions. That's the main reason I don't race my Z here in the mountains during the summer. I have seen density altitudes at Bandimere as high as 12000' on a 90+ degree day and it is usually well over 9000' on most summer days and evenings there. The track at Pueblo isn't much better even though the real elevation is about 900' lower, as the temps there are usually hotter than Denver. The best D/A I have ever experienced here was in Pueblo last year in late October, and it was still 6000'.
Wait till late fall, get some sticky tires on your car, and you'll see low 11's easily, maybe even high 10's, then you'll get the boot for not having a roll bar!

I say you did well for your first time out.
Your mph on the 2nd half will be big if your 1st half and launch aren't as good.
I would really focus on the shifting and making sure you are shifting fast right at the limiter. You definitely should have shifted into 4th. I bet you were short shifting it a bit.
Keep running it and get the technique down so your ready when the temps cool off a bit.
Keep us posted.
Robz, I think what I'm trying to say here is that the problem with the no 4th gear thing is the temp...Trust me when I say that the shifts were between 6900 & 7100 on all runs...The 2.00 60 ft is not great but not hat bad either...I'm a mph kindofa guy and I have 150 runs on the 02 & 04 Zs...The car was just very very linear in 1st and 2nd and felt like my SUV...But I am attributing that to the temps and was looking for opinions on that I guess..

Well keep at it and experiment. Different tracks, air, technique. I'll run it by some of my c6z06 guys and get you their opinions. I believe this proves you need seat time.Usually abouy 25 passes to figure out how the car wants to be driven then another 25 to get close to perfecting it. This car has proven to be unforgiving to any mistakes.
I see you were able to get a discussion going on the other forum. There seems to be alot more still to learn about this car for all of us.

I don't think you can get thru the 1/4 & not shift into 4th w/o hitting the rev limiter......
Not too bad for your 1st time out w/ the car. It's VERY different then the
C5Z!
More seat time is needed as RobZ stated.
BUT, don't expect to run 128mph next time out in better conditions....
