Bad Night AT The Track

Went to the drag strip Saturday night, with the corvette club. I only made 1 run, bad wheel hop on launch than again when I shifted to 2nd. I only launched at 2k rpm, and did not slip the clutch at all, just dumped it.
My night was great compared to one member of the corvette club. As I was making my way around the tower to make my run I saw some drivers getting out of their cars. I walked towards the staging lanes and saw a car about 330ft mark. I was told she hit both walls.
Driver is ok car is not. I was told about $10k in damage. She had a c6 auto with LT's and cai and tune.
I talked to several people who talked to her to find out what happened.
The car lost traction when it shifted to 2nd, she did have street tires, car was in comp. mode.
I also use my street tires on the track, I think if I go back I will do so with drag radials. That is if I go back at all.

Re: Bad Night AT The Track

Wow, sorry to hear you had such a bad night at the drag strip.......but I sure wouldn't give up! I dragged my car with street tires also (A4) and ran it with T/C and A/H turned off (no comp mode) and had a great experience. First three runs the track was really hooking and I experienced no loss of traction whatsoever, but on my last run, I broke traction as it shifted to 2nd, but I held the car straight. It also cost me the entire grudge match as it was the deciding run........I lost by 1/100th of a second......s'ok, I'll get him next time!

I'm surprised to hear that girl in the basically stock C6 auto lost control and hit the wall........glad the driver walked away without a scratch, but it sounds like it was driver error that caused that.

Anyway, point is......don't let one bad race deter you from going back - repetition creates skill!! Better luck next time around

That's part of the problem. You have to progressively give throttle input as you let out the clutch rapidly but smoothly. If you sidestep or dump it you will either wheel hop, spin the tires or potentially break something. Of course the latter is always a possibility.

And of course mucho practice.

Running in Comp Mode and this happened? Must have kept her foot in it too long...
Well, I'm not a 1/4 person ... as evidenced by my (lack of) performance when I do try it ... but someone a lot more experienced and smarter than me in such matters advises to ALWAYS run in Comp Mode ... the nanny is quicker than the human response ...
