Ya! I've been to the track a time or three! Mainly for test and tunes to get the car dialed in! Had lots of track time when I was a youngster back in Jersey. E-town, Atco and Island were regular stops, as was the 1/8 mile at Harmony. Man those were fun times!

I need to go to a drag strip and soon. I know they run occassionally at Cal Speedway and that is not too far from where I live.
I know I will be a totally lame driver, especially launching the car off of the first 60 feet or so. Heck, I can't even do a good job of keeping my car hooked up well coming out of the hot pits at the race track.
You drag race guys talk about stuff that is totally meaningless to me. I am sure it will gain more context for me after I get a chance to make a few runs.

Hey Oli, why don't you come to the Z06 Fest this year. You can give me pointers about road course events and I'll give you some pointers about drag racing.
With Fest time approaching, don't forget to take a look at some of the vids that MADN3SS took at the strip last year in Beech Bend (before the storm hit). I believe the temp was about 98 degrees at the time so none of us had great passes but it's still fun to watch.
So where and when is Z06 Fest. I have heard of it before, but I have never been....
Oli, the Fest is in Bowling Green Kentucky and this year it will be on October 18-20. For more details and registration, click on the NCM link <-----, click on events, click on the Z06 Fest.
There is also a Road Course event that Mark Dickie sets up every year on the day before the fest begins. This year it's at Putnam Park, Indiana. See this thread ...Who's doing NCM HPDE @ VIR 2-3 July?
Hmmm? I am at the SCCA road racing run-offs at Heartland Park track in Topeka October 8-14 for the "big" race. It is likely that I will spend a couple days there the week before getting in a little extra practice, testing and tune in.
As much as I would like to do so, I don't know that it will prove feasible for me to get over the the Fest, too.
I am NOT a drag racer ... I've gone out three times in last two years to prove it!
My heart's in road courses, but my hat's off to those who drag, and do it well ... it ain't easy ...
There's a list somewhere of 20 mistakes a rookie makes at the drag strip. I know I've committed at least 12 of them.
First time out I overheated my clutch on 5th pass ... don't ever want to experience that smell again!
Usta have a time slip in concours ... second time out I managed a sub 2.0 60', 114+ at 12.6+ on F1's.
Third time out was last fest ... I think I only had two passes before we got called for weather ... terrible launches and forgetting to shift does not a good run make
