Question Which Drag Radials are you guys using these days?

I used to use the BFG G-Force DR's in 315/30/18 on my old '02 Z. Now I am looking to get something for my "new" '02 Z.

I have seen people using the newer MT Drag Radials on 17's. I'm wondering if any of you have tried both and have a preference or documented any time differences, etc. Basically I'm looking for opinions here

I wanna buy a pair of wheels and wondering if I should buy 18's or 17's

Thanks in advance,
Miguel

Two popular choices are the BFG DRs and the Nitto DRs. The BFGs are softer and so they'll give you less miles long-term. The Nittos you can drive on the street/track and be fine with them. Good luck.

Re: Which Drag Radials are you guys using these days?

Miguel,
I have used Nitto D/r's on the street and strip in both 305/35/18 and 335/30/18. They are great for the street, stick pretty good, do ok in the rain, and handle the twisties quite well as long as they are aired up properly.
On the strip with decent launch technique and good track prep you should see 1.7 short times with them.
I also had a set of 315/35/17 BFG's. Good track tire, but suck in the rain.
Good for 1.6 short times on a well prepped track. Will wear out very quickly on the street if you daily drive them.
I am now using MT ET Street D/R's in 275/40/17's strictly for the track.
Same rubber compound as the bias ply ET Streets. Properly heated up, these are by far the best drag radials I have tried. These tires should get down to around 1.5 60' times on a decently prepped track. Let me put it this way, last time at the track with mine, I snapped the left shaft on my stock rear on a 5k launch on a decently prepped track. I should be getting some track time in the very near future with them on and will report back on how they do with my stage 4 3.73 gears, and I will not pussyfoot around with the launch,,,,,(5k+ if necessary to prevent bogging) Hope this helps Miguel, You might try to get to the fest next month, as there will be alot of us there going to the drag strip with a wide variety of tire and gear combo's, so you'll get some first hand info as to what works best!

I agree.
The 17's will likely hook better but I'm sure if they now make an 18 mt et street radial it will hook much better than the tires you used to use.

I'm signed up for the fest, my first. I'm signed up to go to the HPDE at Putnam Park, the Auto cross and the drag strip. Needless to say I want to get a lot of HP driving with my car. I've only been on a drag strip twice in my life and that was over 20 years ago with someone else's car.
The is the first time I've seen any mention of the Drag event at the fest.
Looking forward to it!
Later,
David

The 305's were mounted on the stock size rears, and I have a set of 18x12's for the 335's.

Ok thanks, that's what I figured. Looking into getting some 305's soon, myself
