Re: Dragster Safety 101

"Like" is perhaps not the right word for it, luck and good fortune are. Then again, "luck is the residue of design". If it were not for the rules, which specify how the cars are to be designed and built as well as what safety equipment is mandatory, the outcome would have likely been much different. After all, rules are often written in blood.

In that regard, your point is understood.

And yes, the crash was certainly spectacular as well.

wow! It's amazing how someone can survive that but you'll get hurt worse in a slow speed accident in a normal car. Amazing

I def. will agree on the statement on "luck/design" and "rules/blood"..
I remember many of my Dad's buddies that would come over on Thur. spend the night getting ready for the meet...by Sunday, THEY WERE DEAD!!!!
BUT I CAN TELL YOU..THEY DIED DOING WHAT THEY LOVED...THEY'D EAT, SLEEP, AND $HIT,,,,DRAG RACING...WORKING ON THE DAMN DRAGSTER 16HRS PLUS..SOMETIMES SLEEPING IN THE CAR...THEY CALLED IT "THRASHING"..

R.I.P GUYS..I'LL NEVER FORGET YOU...

Re: Dragster Safety 101

In order to do something most people would consider exceedingly dangerous you have to love it. And I can say that with authority.

I too have known a lot of dudes who died doing what they loved to the point virtually all of them would have done it without pay if not for other obligations.

Re: Dragster Safety 101

Yup. You guys keep trapping 130 mph in "street" cars and, God forbid, see what happens when you tag the wall at the top end. It's just ironic how much money goes into making cars quicker without spending a fraction of that on safety. At a taping of Pinks All Out at MIR not too long ago a SG roadster hit the wall barely over 130 mph and the driver expired. And that was a purpose-built race car. I'd rather hit the wall at 260 mph in a dragster than 120 in a street Vette.
