Re: Ernie King & Zturd beware

Pit,
From the symtoms you are describing, sounds to me that your ring gear lost some teeth! When an output shaft breaks, it's usually a clean break and there is no noise or locking up afterwards. If the ring gear loses some teeth, the broken pieces can jamb up between the reluctor and the case. That's how I broke the output shaft of my trans at Firebird during the HPDE at Winterfest 1 in March of '07. I hope it's not your gears, and if it is,,,you need to get the Getrag 3.73's that come in the CTS V......No more Motive Gears for me,,,,,ever!

I hear ya Jim !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally got the program loaded and uploaded the vids

Here was the first run with a light burnout and 14 psi in the ET Streets..about 4000 rpm launch. I was afraid to heat the tires too much till I saw what the twin McLeod clutch was going to do. The clutch hits really hard, not very easy to slip at all.

Second run was light burnout again...14 psi hot. Upped the rpm a little..clutch hit hard again. All the launches felt good, but I still had spin till the fatal fifth attempt with 13 psi hot and 5000 rpm. The thing is...it was probably going to break soon no matter what rpm. This run I short shifted the 1-2 and you can hear me hit the limiter on 3-4. The limiter must have been set about 6800...I had it at 7200 on the old motor and didn't even think to check it.

Pffffffffffffffft pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft!!! I'm not worried, nothing a little spray can't cure!
Sorry to hear about the break down, I hope you can get it back together and hit a 10.... a freaking TEN!!!!!!! With launching the way we need to its bound to happen over time. I noticed in a video of my car the other day the left wheel stopped spinning when i rolled out of the burnout. I just hope the other tire was spinning at least. This might explain why the car is pulling to the left on the launch sometimes.

Hey 10's,
Damn man..take the Line Lock off...haha, then the front wheels will turn.

I am getting slammed with repairs..house and car Cluster Bombs !! Tens will be tough to get in this heat..will be in the 90's any day. I didn't want to just NICK a ten..

May go to a 373 gear if my new 390 is broke. Just wonder what will happen to my sixty foot..?? How about it Robz...I know you have tried that one too ??

Re: Ernie King & Zturd beware

I say first you will pop a wheelie in the parking lot with the tool box in the back when changing to the 3.73's. Then as i stated in LS1tech I think your car will be geared similar to my car with a better 4th gear range to pull in for more MPH. Plus you have 50ft lbs more torque then me. So same gearing basically and more torque equals 1.46's are possible pending, traction, track prep, launch technigue, air temp/conditions and tire choice.

Re: Ernie King & Zturd beware

Well, since I don't have a rolling Z right now to take pictures of, here is a picture of my last clutch and fly wheel from RPS..25 runs is all I got !! You would think I had 1,000 hp or something !!

The first RPS Stage 4+... I got 50 runs before we yanked it out. After talking around I went to the McLeod Twin. Now I wonder if that was a mistake because it hits so hard ?? Now I need a new rear end after a total of 4 runs.

Well good Lordy, Look who feel out of the coal bin... Mr. Pa himself...Well if Pitt hits and 10 and you have to come down to FL, then you can stop off at Myrtle Beach and we can Both go down...

But I don't see that happening anytime soon

Yeah..low 11's is way more exciting because we never know when a 10 may come along and bite us..kind of like walking blind thru the Florida Swamps !!!

You guys make it to Florida, you better bring the vette's and stop here !!
