Gainesville, Bad night overall

Well Ernie, I had a bad Night overall..new skinnie rims do not seat against the rotor's. Almost like the lugnut studs are on an angle. Rim fits fine till the last 1/8 inch. So it was back to the Drag raidal fronts and swerving all over the track. Had some launching trouble with the new 390 gear..little too much spin..ran
11.68 @ 122.2 with 1.8 60 foot,
11.52 @122.7 with 1.67,
11.48 @123 with 1.66
then got flagged to slow down.
half run with 1.672 60 foot
and finally a 1.55 60 foot launching around 6500 rpm.
The last run I was a 4.694 at the 330 foot mark and then I swerved real bad and aborted (probably a 11.2-11.3 quarter).. still a long way from tens !!
The really bad part is the tranny\clutch I thought was fixed still feels bad. Cannot power shift when motor hits around 6000 ?? I know I'm losing 2-3 tenths right there. Pit-man

Re: Gainesville, Bad night overall

Wow, I don't understand why the fronts don't fit.. unless they drilled them wrong,, where did you get them, and or do you have stock brakes up front ?

Still some good times with the problems, those fronts alone cost you time..

If you got the fronts from CCW I would call John and find out whats wrong..

Good luck, I'm sure you will get it done before long..

Re: Gainesville, Bad night overall

I ordered them from GM..not from CCW. I was told by several people the GTO spare 4.5" rims work just fine. They do clear my stock brakes..but the bolt pattern seems to be about 1\64th off. All I know is they don't work...I never dreamed they would not fit. As I was tightening them down I noticed one lug nut would almost always be loose as I worked around the lugs..then finally noticed the rims weren't even touching the rotors. Almost couldn't get them off..had to beat and kick the Rims over and over till they finally busted loose. Oh well, lesson learned.. Should have just went to CCW in the first place.

Re: Gainesville, Bad night overall UPDATE

Found out from another forum the rims just needed shaving in center area (area for hub). They work like a champ with 5 minutes work on each.
Took vette to Valdosta to try them out..it was domestic vs import night so 90% of the cars had street tires ...Translation: track prep..did they even do it ? First time I ever had wheel hop !! My 1.55 sixty went to a best of 1.81 but I still trapped a 11.5 @123. I even cut the typical launch down 1,000 rpm and it still spun pretty bad. No records broke except a new 125mph best...and some fun !! Pit-man
