Single Disk Clutch Help

Alright guys,
I just went with the McLeod Twin...clamping force is unreal. As some of you know I took my diff out on the 5th run with the new clutch.

What is holding up at the 1/4 track for you guys with 400-700 rwhp and still a good all around clutch ?? My last single was RPS Stage 4+ (actually went thru 2 of them in a year)...the final one lasted only 25 runs. No more of those please.

My buddy just put my old cam in his Z and needs a good all around clutch now ! He is slipping in 4th.

Re: Single Disk Clutch Help

Is he planning on future mods or just leaving it with your cam combo? I always believe in buying for the future. If he is going to eventually go to bigger HP, he might as well buy the clutch for it now. No sense in paying twice.

Hey Norm,
yeah...400 for now and possibly up to 700 later. He didn't mention which PowerAdder he had in mind. So what do you have in mind ??

He does all his own work and specializes in suspensions. He just finished my Race Silverado and found several problems with my 4-link rear. She should handle the new 402 now !!

Re: Single Disk Clutch Help

Personally, I'd go ahead and nip it in the bud and go for a twin disk. I have a spec III + that would not hold my car on the dyno at 3500 rpm. Even under the rated torque limit of the clutch. I'd just play it safe and get the twin disk now.

Now you are beyond me. I don't have much experience with the twin disks. I've been looking at McLeod and the Spec Carbon twin discs. I heard textrillia makes a good unit also.

Norm,
I just got off the phone with Jimbo. He said he knows of 2 more good clutches besides the McLeod. He is running the TexOZ700 and he said he is hearing good things about the Centerforce DFX.

Re: Single Disk Clutch Help

Well I'm looking at this thread cause my Tex 0z700 may be finally starting to give in At the track wednesday nite on launches it felt like it was hazing the clutch and would not let me shift to 2nd but shifts all other gears fine after you get into gear. Car is fine on teh street its just the aggressive launch that does it I'm looking a twin disc of some sort but not sure what. A mcleod or a tex twin is what i was thinking.

OK, Pitt just quit his bitching...3 more runs at the Fest and I was able to slip this twin. New best 1/4 mile on a 83 degree day with 2800 DA was 11.122 @125.5 with 14.5 psi in ET Streets. Track prep was not great in my opinion...lots of spin going on. My sixty was 1.594 and a 7.148 @97.6 mph. I was launching easy for me...top was a 5200 rpm launch on 14.5 psi. First 2 runs, I ran back to back 11.5's with 17 psi cold and 19.5 hot. Car was hooking and hopping and spinning...first time ever. Vids coming soon. They were on 4400 rpm launches. Cold weather is looking good here !!!

I just might recommend this McLeod Twin afterall. Big race in November with me and my friend Mark against the Mustang Club. Let me see if it will pull some mid 1.4's with 11.5 psi and and more rpm launch.

Smile Re: Single Disk Clutch Help

I have a RPS twin carbon fiber clutch, which has an almost stock pedal effort and will hold 800+ HP

Re: Single Disk Clutch Help

Spec 3+ best single disk clutch out on the market. Light pedal too. All new design single faced. not puck design that chatters like aussie clutch and previous specs.

If you want like stock engagement and pedal effort then the ls7 OEM clutch.

Re: Single Disk Clutch Help

Pitt, for heavy duty drag racing, you might at least consider the SPEC 5 iron disc clutch. It has a high clamp pressure plate and held up for me for quite a while. I did finally blow through it (along with my second tranny) before I went the Turbo-400 route but it did pretty well for a lot of passes with high hp.

for a 383 trapping 129 probably making 500rwhp.. spec 5 is over kill!
the 3+ will hold up just fine at that power level even with severe track launches.
Im around that power as well.. even with nitrous which will put me around 650 and alot of torque I think it will hold just fine.
