What to expect on 1/8 miles times

Hello:

I am finally taking my Z to the local track on test and tune day this Saturday. I have a bone stock (minus shifter) '02. The last time I ran this track my car at the time had a little trouble hooking up, but overall it is a decent track. Weather should be in 50's to low 60's.

Assuming some bad driving on my part, should I expect low to mid 8's? My last car would do 8 flat and low 12's in the quarter on street radials and the Z feels about as fast. What should I expect?

Thanks for any feedback.

Re: What to expect on 1/8 miles times

tires make a difference..
i am NOT a drag racer.
with stock tires 1/8 th i would run mid 8's
with drag radials real close to 8
i am not much on the launch and 60 f
but it was fun.. the z is just starting to run strong on the 3 rd shift.. and the ride was over.

its fun
just stay off the wall !!! get squirly.. LIFT

Probably about the same IMO....Low 8's and mid 12 1/4 mile unless your a great driver. That's still fast !!

Thanks. That is about what I was expecting, or expect. Just so I beat my buddy in his Crossfire SRT (he is doing 8.60's) all will be fine.

If the numbers are decent I will post them Saturday. If not then I will be either practicing more or buying some goodies to make up for my driving skills.

Re: What to expect on 1/8 miles times

Just start around 2200 rpm, let the clutch out pretty fast and slowly press the peddle to the floor..(not too slow..like a quick one-two-three). Drop your air down to about 18-20 maybe in the rear and air up the front to 44 psi. Then just see what happens. If it bogs, come out a little harder till it pulls thru. That always gave me mid 12's if I didn't miss a gear or hit the gas too hard and spin. Let us know how you did.

Re: What to expect on 1/8 miles times

Thanks for information.

I just got back and ran a very slick 8.5 @ 89.7 mph. I was really bad. I used to go to the drag strip at least once a month but that was 15 years ago. I need to practice as the torque/clutch gave me a fit.

I only made two passes and the second one started with bad wheel hop and the activ hadling taking over and me lifting when I got sideways when I hit third.

I had a blast though. My buddy turned an 8.5 with his SRT, that was very impressive to me. Oh well, now I know. 1/8 seems to short though but still good to get out to the track.

Thanks for the help.

Sean,
Guess you are still on street tires huh ? Did you remember to turn on the Competitive mode on at least one run ?

Re: What to expect on 1/8 miles times

Pit,

Oh yeah, just the Firehawks. Had the competition mode on. The sideways in third surprised me. I got what I thought I would/could. I amy go back later and practice when it gets warmer. I think I can get a couple of tenths off my time. The car definitely needs some street slicks to really see what it can really do. That and a better driver.

sean67:
Looks like you had a decent first time out in your Z. I'm pretty sure your street tire times are better than mine were, before I got ahold of some used MT ET Streets 26x11.5x16 on Trans-Am wheels.

With them, I ran a personal best in my 98% stock 01 Z06 just a couple weeks ago at Barona drag strip, east of San Diego.

60': 1.799
ET: 8.022
MPH: 88.639

Only changes from stock:
K&N drop-in filter in the stock airbox (lid removed); MAF screen removed; fuel cutoff raised to 7000; "No-Lift-To-Shift" = 5500rpm fuel cutoff when not in gear/clutch depressed.

Oh yeah, I always run in Comp Mode, too. It really sucks when you forget to turn off the TC! (should get a LapTraxx, I guess...)
