Front lugs for spacer

I'm thinking of running a spacer so will need to lengthen the front lugs by 1/4 inch. I would still like to be able to use the stock lug nuts for dealer visits with the spacer removed.

Will I be able to tighten the stock (z16) nuts to correct torque spec? They are the ones with the ss skin over the nut & closed on the end. Special for z/16 I think.

Has anyone found a lug that is about 1/4 inch longer than stock so I don't have to cut down the really long ones? ARP?

Thanks.

Re: Front lugs for spacer

You can use up to a 1/4" spacer with the OEM studs and lug nuts.

However it is better to have the maximum allowed SCCA positive track offset (+0.25" per wheel) built into your race wheels. (Note, this corrects the Scrub Radius back to ZERO on a lowered car.)

If you want to change studs Chevy does have longer studs.

OR you could install ARP studs. Doug Rippie has them.

Another option is custom Titanium studs & nuts.

Have you done it, or know personally of someone who has? I tried it (without driving on them) and it "looked" like the nut was not engaging all the threads, but it's hard to tell for sure just by looking. The oem lugs are not threaded to the end & the oem nuts likewise have an "unthreaded" section.

Thanks.

Re: Front lugs for spacer

Yes, I would not give such advise if I was not sure.

I ran a 1/4" spacer with my CCW 17"x11" rear wheels which did not have the allowed SCCA +0.25" offset built in. I ran the spacer to gain clearance between the spring perch end plate and inside wheel shoulder.

I also needed to run a 1/4" spacer on the front wheel when I ran 17"x10" Dymag with C4 spacing to gain clearance for the front brake calipers.

I ran all with OEM wheel studs. I did switch to an aftermarket lug nut...just a cheap tapered chrome nut from Auto Zone because I was tired of the cad plating getting nicked on the OEM nuts and their stupid covers necessary to keep them dry.

Thanks DJ, just wanted to be double sure with such a critical item. I was wondering if the dimension (thickness) of where the rim mounts to the hub was different from one wheel (say CCW) to another (say oem). I would hope that the dimension is exactly the same or aftermarket rims could have problems.

I'd be running a billet spacer (1/4 inch) and oem z06 rims. It's a little odd not to see the lug come out flush with the nut is all.

Re: Front lugs for spacer

Make sure you use a "Hub Centric" spacer, IE. the correct diameter hub opening CNC'd in the spacer so that it fits just snuggly over and around the hub....this adds stability, prevents mis-alignment, allows consistant torque values and reduces stress on the studs and nuts.

Thanks, yes, that is what I have. Made for Vette, not the universal fit.
