We're having a divisional event this coming weekend. The rules require two decals on each side of the car, one on the hood/bumper, and the tirerack windshield decal. For those of you that have run with those on a C5 how did you attach them to the car. I obviously don't want to use the adhesive backing to stick them to the car. With the Mustang I stuck them on a magnetic sheet which I cut to match the size, but that isn't an option with this car.
Buy some clear static cling from a sign shop and put the stickers on the static cling. You can take them on and off anytime you want. The decals have a tendency to wrinkle up after a while due to different shrink rates.
Come to think of it you could use any color static cling under decal.

go to lowes.. get some tacky shelf paper.. white.. silver.. solid.. no flowers..
cut out.. use craft tools.. scrapbooking stuff etc..
stick em on..
use water and a squeegie.. come off clean.. wax good before applying..
you can use them a dozen times if you take care of them.

Do a google search for "solo time" and you'll find a non-supporting vendor who sells reusable vinyl decals. In fact, they'll sell you an SCCA AutoX pack with all the stickers you need. The sticker goes on the vinyl, and the vinyl sticks to the car. I used static cling for a couple years but found that as soon as it wrinkles (usually from sitting in the sun - my car is black), it doesn't stay on well at all. If you're competing at the divisional level and/or run a lot of autoX, I highly recommend upgrading to the reusable vinyl. Goes on easy, comes off clean, but absolutely stays put.

It doesn't hurt the car to stick them right on, but one trick I use is to trim the backing paper about 1/2 to 3/4 inch around the edges of the decal. Leave the backing paper on about 80% of the decal. Then when you stick it on you are only sticking around the edges.
It'll stay on good & come off easy.
Another trick is to stick the whole decal onto your shirt/pants a few times. That gets a bunch of lint onto the adhesive & makes it less sticky to the car.
The static cling & reuseable vinyl are also good suggestions, just cost a few bucks.

You must be doing a National tour event... Just put them on cling, or like I do just remove them at the end of the event. I have not had any problem with them except the SCCA sticker, that one always seem to leave behind some glue (so it is alway on cling now)

Just wax the car twice then apply the stickers. These stickers do not hurt the paint.
They come off easily the day after the event and you can cleanup any excess adhesive with Turtle Wax Bug and Tar Remover
Note that vinyl cling ons tend to blow off and will not stick if there is any dampness in the air or on the track. This will result in erroneous scoring and a possible DNF.

What you want is Avery #3383 Sticker Project Paper in 8 1/2" X 11". Then fire up your computer (Microsoft Wordart) and make whatever numbers you want. This stuff sticks on fine for HPDE work at 140 mph and peels off without leaving a trace. Cheap, easy, and it works great.
