Spa 24 Hours "Crown" to defend....

For those who dont know, the extremely close FIA GT Championship will be hosting the Biggest GT race of the year next week. Over 58 of the worlds best GT1,GT2 G2 (non homogulated GT2), and G3 (GT3) will take center stage at the Spa Francorchamps track in Belgium.

Corvette will be in attendance to defend their overall crown that they took from Maserati by only a one minute 17 seconds in 2007. Also in attendance will be the likes of Saleen, Aston Martin, and Lamborghini.

Corvette Motorsport (Corvettes Racing in Europe) will have live coverage throughout the week. Some content includes an exclusive live C6R onboard stream, Live garage web cam, Live updates and much more.

The countdown begins....whos ready?

Re: Spa 24 Hours "Crown" to defend....

Tman08, thanks for reminding us about this race. It is a very big deal for world wide GT fans. The Corvettes are sometimes more highly regarded in this series where they have much more competition than in the ALMS series over here.
Corvette, Aston Martin and Maserati MC-12, are only a few points apart for the Manufacturers championship. And as Tman08 said, this is broadcast worldwide.

I sure wish I could join you ...a 24Hour race for GT cars without prototypes on the track at the same time would be like one of the original IMSA races over here.

Be sure and tell us what the Corvette Corral or any Vette Club representation is like.

Re: Spa 24 Hours "Crown" to defend....

Well so far the #3 SRT C6R got badly damaged on Thursday with Bouchut at the wheel but with some outside help the team have rebuilt the car and it was out on track for the warmup

Both of the Phoenix cars skipped the warmup which given what happened to the #7 Saleen might have been a good idea........

This is the car during the session:

This is the car at the end of the session:

Car is a complete write off, chassis is probably damaged beyond repair so the car may never race again which would be a huge shame as it was the pole sitting car and won't now race.

The race starts at 16.00 local time which is 1 hour ahead of GMT so I believe CST is 7 hours behind meaning the race starts for you guys at 9 a.m. so just in time for coffee and doughnuts

Re: Spa 24 Hours "Crown" to defend....

A few more pics from the weekend.

The first corner saw the #3 SRT C6R take the lead.

A lot of Porsche overtaking for the Corvettes!

You guys have no idea how steep the circuit is, imagine Road Atlanta only steeper!

This is what a C6R looks like after you set fire to it!

But the fire couldn't kill it and the car returned to the track

#6 C6R finished despite the fire, the #5 retired after catching fire on track and the #3 retired due to brake failure and subsequent damage.

Thanks so much for posting the great pictures.

The armco barriers and curb markers look like Watkins Glen.

Sadly the highest placed Corvette ended up 21st I believe. As the pictures show there was a lot of crashes. Maserati was 1 and 2.

I meant for their GT1 class. I'll look up standings if I can find them - maybe I read them wrong.
