31st Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races
Fri, 8/13/2004 - Sun, 8/15/2004 (Tickets go onsale Monday, 1/12/2004)
The Historic Automobile Races are the largest event held during the renowned classic car weekend in Monterey California. More than 40,000 visitors worldwide annually attend the Historic Races, which greatly supports the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula's (SCRAMP) contribution to local charities. Last year, SCRAMP donated $507,500 to 70 Central Coast charitable and service organizations.
The Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races, presented by Chrysler and which will celebrate its 31st year at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, is a tribute of motor racing history, historic automobiles and the people who made them. Each year, more than 375 of the finest historic race and sports cars are entered in 14 race groups that span nearly every era of motorsports history.
Red will be the predominant hue as Ferrari, the fabled Italian sports and racing car marque, is honored at this year's Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races presented by Chrysler.
For the 31st year, the hills just East of Monterey Bay will be filled August 13-15 with the sounds of more than 400 of the world legendary racing cars and some of the men who drove them to fame.
This past year we celebrated Ford during its 100th anniversary as both an automaker and an auto racer, said Steven J. Earle, president of General Racing Ltd. and event founder. And in 2004 will honor Ferrari, Ford's nemesis in the 60s for racing supremacy.
Nearly every make that ever sported an entry number on its side is represented at the Rolex Monterey Historics. The famous names like Corvette, Ferrari, Jaguar, Porsche, Bugatti, Shelby, Lotus, Aston Martin, Maserati and Mustang, are among those well represented, as are some of the more obscure names such as Mercer, Allard, Devin, Talbot Lago, Morgan and Jowett Jupiter.
Car clubs are very welcome at the Historics. The special parking corrals are second only to the paddock in the number and quality of exotic and historic cars present over the weekend. Clubs can take advantage of discounted ticket prices for their members, not to mention a special parking area. The corrals allow the clubs to showcase their cars and provide a place to meet and socialize for their members.
