Re: Anyone going to Texas World Speedway this weekend?
Cool, I'll look for you. What group? I'll be in a black '02, #405 in Blue Group. I've been to TWS once before but it was a couple of years ago. It's a really fun track!
Re: Anyone going to Texas World Speedway this weekend?
Hey guys, I was there at ViperDays and saw you both; very fast. Blue '08 in the green group. Going back on 11/8-9 for the Perf. Driving School. Have you done one and, if so, how was it. I understand it can be a little slower than ViperDays because we might be running with slower cars?

I haven't done the TWS driving school but I'm very interested to hear about it compared to the DE events. I'll be back there again 11/16-16 for the next DE. That is one fun track!
Re: Anyone going to Texas World Speedway this weekend?
I know you guys already went to the track, but I have lots of in car video of me driving my '02 Z06 at TWS. Email for track discussion on apex points or other tips. I did a BMW racing license certification there too. Raced my '05 Mitsu Evo VIII MR there and ran even faster times..... Probably my favorite track for fast top speed and a little everything else. Hope you all did well and had a lot of fun.

It would be great to see some videos if you don't mind sharing. Do you have them posted online or need email them? I'm sure I'll have some questions after watching those. I think I did pretty well but still have lots of room for improvement. Weather permitting, I'm thinking of going up for the TWS driving school on 12/13 for some extra practice.
Re: Anyone going to Texas World Speedway this weekend?
I went to the TWS performance driving shool on 11/8-9 and it was great. I had been warned about slower cars being a little reckless trying to keep up with the faster cars, but I didn't see any of that. Very well run and a good deal for the money. Viper days puts on a little more elaborate production, but this is cheaper and fine for running your car.
There was a new black GT-R there smoking everyone in the yellow group. Some, or most, of it could have been the driver, but lord he went past me in a hurry.
Looking for more speed out of the tight S's before hitting the straight going CCW. I was taught to stay left til all wheels are on the asphalt patch, then simply brush both yellow cubs and drift up onto the bank as traction demands under full power. A friend says you can get more speed on the straiht if you give up some on these turns and apex the second one much later, giving you a longer run before hitting the hill. Using this technique, you stay at the bottom of the straight and enter turn one at a very shallow angle coming off the bank. He likes this better for low hp rides, but any opinions for the Z06?
Re: Anyone going to Texas World Speedway this weekend?
NewFoundPower....I have a few discs I can make copies of and send to you. It's pretty solid video too. I think one or two sessions were also zoomed in on my G meter showing all the forces exerted. But these were not focused on the driving line since the G meter takes up the whole screen.
CDFMG: Good questions. Would have loved to see that GT-R. I just don't get it with that car yet....but well see. As for the entry to the straight. I have played with those S's for ever. Both your points are right. Correct way is stay left and touch the yellow strips. This does give you the "driving line" for the next turn and entry onto the straight drifting up and right onto the bank. However, the "racing line" is slightly more track center (left center) at the start of the yellow strips and then you can choose to keep car down low or go up high and let car drift while accelerating onto bank. The low line is not bad, but I always slide up right half way down for better angle when turning down at the end. There is a magic seet spot down there which can make you famous if you always hit it. I think this is where most guys lose at TWS. It's so fast, after slowing to 145mph at turn in, but most are not comfortable doing what feels impossible. My videos are both of great entries and terrible ones. Ha!
Re: Anyone going to Texas World Speedway this weekend?
Can you get your video onto youtube? I'd like to see the turn 1 approach. No way I'm coming off the bank at 145mph though. At least not til the kids are gone.
Re: Anyone going to Texas World Speedway this weekend?
Hey guys. Sorry slow getting back. I have been doing my other hobby....flying remote turbines! Thought it would be cheaper than racing Z06's.
I need to start posting vids on you tube. Who can get me started.
Can't wait to watch your vids NewFoundPower. By the way, I am so itching for a Z06, I seem to spot one every few days or so.....painful not to be driving one. Man..........
.....Edit.... Watched your vids. Great! Of all the years I have raced there, I have never ran it backwards or clockwise. Great runs! You're the perfect student I like to instruct....just enough seat time to not be scared.... I started making notes to myself of throttle inputs and braking breaking points as if I was going to get out of the car and discuss with you.. Ha!!!
One of my vids is with my girlfriend during that weekend. (B4 wife/kids) As an instructor, I took a few around with me for complete sessions. Another vid is of a good driver some of you might know, Steve Hill, instructing me on some braking points and turn in's.
