Hi -
I'm looking at getting to a DE at The Glen in the fall. For those of you that have been there a bunch, what hotel do you recommend for a group of fellers that'll be smoking cigars and drinking a few at night?
Better yet, is there a nearby bar where one could enjoy similar activities?

Thanks in advance for the help.
I'm already booked for 20-21 Aug with Phoenix CMR Inc. Schedule fit and price was right.
Anyone else going then?
All ears regarding where to stay. I need to book a place.

Falls Motel is very nice and very close. They also have a carriage house which is a bar/restaurant. Smoking in New York might be a problem if it is raining.

Let's not get too carried away with The Falls Motel. It is reasonably priced, Dark, Clean, and has plenty of Hot Water. As far as nice goes...it's not. That said, you will not find anything else in the immediate Glen area that is as cost-effective, the owner is always there, and he is a real nice guy.
I made the mistake of staying at the Seneca Lodge once and will not repeat it.
DennyM are you referring to the Budget Inn in downtown Watkins Glen?

Agree, and the rates are even lower in the spring and fall; when the tourists are gone. The owner is also very trailer friendly, but big ones need to be left down on the street.
stayed at the falls in late april/early may when we ran with scda the guys with the open trailers were able to put them up in front of their rooms, I didn't even bother with my big 24 ft enclosed. its literally 5 mins from the track. The restaurant is decent, but the bar is only beer and wine, and a 'family' bar as we were instructed......therefore we weren't allowed to swear (hard when a bunch of us are from queens and brooklyn
I just came back from running watkins this mon-tues with pda....they reserve a room block at the radisson in corning for teh same 95ish per night better restaurant, their bar stays open till midnight the bar in town stays open till 1 but will give you to-go drinks in plastic cups (ask me how I know ) its about a 15 minute ride, but a much, much nicer hotel than the falls. Trailer parking there works out fine as well because we'll overrun the commuter parking which goes into effect at 9 am and we're out by 7 at the latest. they also have an internet hookup if you want/desire, not too sure bout the falls, think you're on your own there.
I'm pretty sure pdadrivingschool and scda both have dates for later in the season. I'm intermediate at this point so I can't comment on the instructors, but teh pda seems a lil more strict on tech than scda, pda wants everything possible out of the car, mats the stuff INSIDE the glove compartment/console if it ain nailed down it goes out, scda.....the tech guy asked me can you see through that tinted windshield? I said hold up some fingers, called out 3 and he signed off my slip and away I went. Lets get real we're taking our own lives in our hands, if you don't know what condition your vehicle is in, you don't belong doin 150 down teh backstraight

Kmagvette - what was the mistake of staying at Seneca? I heard that place was supposed to be historic and insteresting.
Try the Seneca Lodge also - just a few blocks from the Falls Motel. If you want a little more comfort.......about 15 minutes from the track in Corning is the Radison or Holiday Inn, both reasonable priced at around $100/night and only a short drive away.
Was just there two weeks ago!!

Both the Falls and Seneca are both "questionable". As far as convenient......YES! Think roadside motel.......if you're not worried about that, then go for it, but IMO Corning has nice places FOR THE SAME PRICE

Any take on the Budget Inn on Franklin St. in WG?
I've got a room reserved there for the Aug event with Phoenix CMR.
It'll be just me ...
I just need a safe place to park the car and crash ...

Hey Denny, not real sure about that one as far as level of cleanliness etc....but if you wanna park the car safely, leave it at the track - they have security and the gates are locked at night. Can't be any worse than the Seneca or Falls so I'd say you're already ahead of the game.
Watkins Glen seems like an all around safe area to park your car etc....it's just finding decent accommodations......Hope you have a blast!! I got to test my skill on that track two weeks ago.

Thanks, Deb ... heard the event started off rough ... black flags and all ... I'll start off in a preemptive defensive position until I figure out who I'm on track with and where the track goes ...
