Manual Exhaust Cut Outs Installed

Attached is a URL of my manual exhaust cut outs that I plan to open up on the track. They are located down stream from the cats and x-pipe junction, instead of front of both. I chose to go this route as the automated cut outs are too bulky in tight places and their gears, made of nylon, tend to melt.

The silver paint is 1200 degree gas barbeque paint from Home Depot, not VHT.

While originally I wanted to have the cut out blended into the pipe, heat and space considerations nixed the idea.

Looks awesome! Where can I get the cut-out piece that is welded on?

Nice idea.
I am headed out to swap my straight pipes for my ti's, again.
I don't mind doing it, but your way looks much easier.

Re: Manual Exhaust Cut Outs Installed

The cut outs were retrieved from scrap mild steel 2.5 inch pipe that were then notched. Truth be told, I did not do the metal work, but only provided the design.

Tip of the hat goes to Hank of Hanksville Hot Rods of Highlands Ranch, Colorado for the nice fabrication and install. The whole took him only two hours from start to finish. All I provided Hank with was the x-pipe and the idea.

Hank helps out a bunch of us NASA guys with cages, pipes, dash boards and all sorts of arcane metal fabrications that racers need. He is "The Man" in these parts.

Re: Manual Exhaust Cut Outs Installed

what does it sound like with the caps pulled off? Does it do anything real for performance?

Re: Manual Exhaust Cut Outs Installed

I have electric cut-outs and my dyno results showed a 10rwhp and 7rwtq loss with the cut-outs open. I'm putting taking my cut-outs out and installing a Borla mid-pipe around the end of this year (deploying in two weeks).

Watch your rear spring... they tend to melt and delaminate w/ cutouts at open track events.
