Signed up for HPDE-Watkins Glen: 16-17 Jul?; 20-21 Aug?
Among the data loss casualties was a thread about futures at WGI.
I suggested to Stry that he might want to shake out the Yellow Beast ... and that I'd post what I was going to do.
I was looking at trackmasters and pda but someone (perhaps kmagvette) tipped me off to Phoenix CMR.
I'm signed up for their 20-21 Aug event.
First time up for KeithD and me ... this one is to learn the track.
The schedule was right, and the price too.
The Novice Group has room and the intermediate and advanced are filling up.
Anyone else signed up for this ... or have experience running with them?

Reason: Posts about July event
there's quite a few of us signed up for pda in mid july (its a mon-tues I believe 16-17)
myself, trynkeepup, wicked weasel, fookingz06, george Z, etc. last time at watkins it wound up a group of about 12 of us with 10 racing. anyone else interested is more than welcome of course this short on time i'm not sure whats left roomwise, I'm running intermediate, but I think we have a spread across all the rungroups of participants to dominate every field.

Would be great to run with you all but I can't do July ... got VIR, then Summit, and end of month I have a non-track trip to Albany/Cooperstown for a visit with my sister and HOF induction of a local boy
But one day I'll enjoy the opportunity to "TryNkeepup" with the stragglers in your group
I know the deal I'm doin the hamptons for the holiday weekend, then southbeach with chris from ecs july 5-8 get back get things back in order then I'm away again for watkins...should be interesting..

After you return from your ANAL adventures with that Chrissie babe, do you think you will be in good enough health/shape to drive at the Glen???????

When is the event at VIR? Whos running it, NASA??
thanks.
I ran at WG last year. It took me 2 & a half full sessions to REALLY learn the track. My 1st session instructor SUCKED & told me I was in the wrong position AFTER I missed the line for the turn, which I had NO idea was coming or which direction it was since I was NEVER there before, a concept he just didn't comprehend....
VERY different then the long course @ Pocono that I ran in 05. To REALLY go fast you'll need slicks & racing brakes. My stock C5Z (at the time) set up was good enough to go quick, not fast. Those are some real turns up there....
Looking forward to a day at Pocono w/ the C6Z now!

Yep, I'll take credit for the tip. Most of the CMR guys stay at Seneca Lodge which, frankly, is a dive. I didn't heed the warnings from my Trackmasters buddies and stayed there in June - had critters in my room. Looking forward to meeting some more forum members and you will love the Glen, rain or shine.

Thanks .. . Guy I'm going up with is hooked up with Mariott-affiliated places ... any near there?
I'll prolly resemble Dr. Ron's experience ... which is why I wanted a tutorial day ...
For Mallet Z06 question: "When is the event at VIR? Whos running it, NASA??
thanks."
This is a National Corvette Museum event. Many of the instructors will be coming from NASA SE and MA. Registration opened in late Jan and sold out (125 cars) in four hours.
Last year they did DE's at CMP and Putnam. Second one this year is out west at Spring Mountain in November. (the're also doing the DE at Putnam week of Z06 Fest, priority to Fest registrants. I expect a WGI event in the near future (can't speak for them but they're expanding the series in a very deliberate plan (I know the vision ... don't know the details. HTH
Safely back from the Glen.
Good meeting Keith (KMagVette) there and others.
Good track for corvettes ... if there's any way possible for y'all, I suggest you put it high on your list.
Had a cool, dry day Mon, followed by drizzle Tue AM.
Looking at low clouds and heavier rain about 1:30, I bailed out, bracing for a 5hour drive home on Nitto 555RII's . They're OK, as long as one avoids standing water ... that goes for track AND road!
... but I think things cleared up and those who stayed got some good track time in Tues PM.
Phoenix CMR tries to maximize track time ... has a good program, well organized and executed.
GP 1 (Novice) held to 4 25 min sessions a day (in my experience, that's about right).
Gp 2 & 3 got 4 x 40 min sessions per day (I ran Gp 2; had to go in for gas at noon Monday!) ... even leaving after two sessions Tuesday I still got 4 hrs track time!
Had an excellent instructor to check me out, cleared me conditionally for solo, then came back for the last Monday session to make sure I knew what I was supposed to know, demonstrated what I was supposed to be able to do, and helped me find speed on the track
Separate post on this ... but I LOVE my newly installed DRM radiator (Ron Davis radiator with integrated EOC and Doug Rippie line kit. Money and time well spent.
