Tire & Wheel package

BTW is it rude to shoot shotcuts to topics that I've started on another forum if so in the future I'll cut and paste, I'm still new to the game.
Thanks
Marc

Marc, it would be better to cut and paste then to send folks to a different forum to read your topic.
Thanks for the courtesy of asking in advance

Mike

NO...but it IS rude to label a post "Re: Tire & Wheel Package" and then NOT talk about a tire and wheel package.

Sucked me in.

Well I just pulled the trigger on a set of CCW C-14 I wasn’t planning on buying them until next year, I was planning on running my C-5 Z06 replica rears 18 X 12 and C-5 Z06 factory 18 X 10.5 up front until Feb. 2008. I didn’t have a problem with the above setup other than the fact I need spacers up front due to the close proximity of the spokes and brake caliper. I had spoken to John and "CCW" staff several times he has always been professional even though my questions probably seemed redundant. John told me that 18X11 up front and 18X13 in the rear is the hot setup for running quickly around a road course. Did anyone transition or have first hand knowledge of someone that transitioned from a smaller size wheel package to the 18X11 18X13 setup?

Re: Tire & Wheel package

A wheel size change is not really a factor on the learning curve.

However a tire compound change is....and a big one. You have to relearn the handling characteristics and the tire limitations all over.

That is why I recommend a seperate street and a seperate track wheel/tire combination. Those that think they are saving money by using a HP street tire on the street and using them at the track as well are only fooling themselves:
- they quickly wear out there expensive street tires
- they quickly exceed the HP street tire limits on the track and become slow and frustrated.
- they then have to buy a new set of street tires AND a new set of track tires
- then they have to relearn the track handling characteristics and track tire limitations

Purchase a dedicated set of race wheels with A/R Compound tires and save the OEM rims and HP tires for the street.

Re: Tire & Wheel package

I bought a set of CCW's for the track from John 3 yrs ago, same size as he is recommending.

I run a street tire on them, I drive to and from the track and I love the setup. I think it just depends on what your goals are in HPDE's, I personally am happy in adv group, having a blast and still on street tires.

Exclamation Re: Tire & Wheel package

I'm going to keep the wheels sizes I ordered, I was concerned about rubbing issues but John assured me that there would be no issues. I'm very comfortable in the intermediate run group, I don't like being on the track with full race cars and passing in the curves.
