Video of a couple laps at the Daytona HPDE Nov 1&2

We had a great event here at Daytona over the weekend.

The event was sponsored by PBOC Motorsports. They had an HPDE as well as a 2 hour Enduro Race on Friday, and a couple of 30 minute Sprint Races each day on Saturday and Sunday.

I attended the HPDE which gave us 3 sessions each day on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday was a great day, and Sunday was rainy (a "good experience" day!).

Here's a link to a video of a couple laps on Saturday:

There's a 3 day HPDE here at Daytona that will be put on by an Audi club Dec 12-14. Check their website for info on registering. If you need a link, let me know.

Wow, great Video. At 160 MPH, it looks like a thrilling ride!

Looks like a blast. Atleast you really let it open up and breath I can't believe I still haven't done an HPDE yet. After winter I have to do that.

Yeah, I kept waiting for a point-by signal so I could pass.

I had been signed off for solo, but I think he had an instructor in the car with him. The instructor probably finally told him to signal me okay to pass when we came out of the "Bus Stop" (that chicane on the back straight) and I was able to blast by.

In the infield we could pass with a hand signal point-by from the car you were overtaking on the straight sections between T3-T4, and T4-T5.

We could pass anywhere on the banking or straights with a pass signal - you don't need to be taking a hand off the wheel when you're doing 130 and stick it out the window into the windblast to signal a pass, so the car being overtaken signaled okay to pass with the turn signal.

Oh well....we were running in the student group, so I'll give him a break. That was the second session, so maybe he was still a little in awe of running on the high-banked oval!!

I'll PM you info on registration for the Dec 12-14 event - hope you can make it!!!

Cool video! I am curious to know what your telemetry setup is?

My data-logger is a Traqmate.

I used to take video with a cheapo Aiptek, and it worked real well.

Before this event I got a ChaseCam video recorder.

The "dashboard" instruments on the video was put on there using TraqStudio, which is Traqmate's video integration software.

There is a software called TrackVision that will work with just about any data-logger to put a similar "dashboard" display onto video taken with about any videocam.

Bob ... good video! I've run Pocono short infield course w/ some bowl, and Nashville Speedway infield course with a lotta bowl ... makes one look at those Nascar and IRL loonies in a different light ... :jawdrop:

I think you ran VIR with NCM this year ???

Denny; Yes my son and I enjoyed the AutoX. I'm not quite ready to take my car up to the 150 MPH area yet. We had it up to 135 on the Atlantic City Expressway and that was plenty! "A man's got to know his limitations".

See ya

Denny

Yeah....when I was passing somebody on the banking while doing 130+ it really made me focus, and that was only 2-abreast!! It really does make you have a lot more respect for those guys going 185 and 3-abreast, 6 inches from each other and 6 inches from the wall!!!!

I was at VIR. I had my camera mounted up in the right corner of the windshield, as you can see in this video:

2 Laps around VIR in C6 Z06 on Vimeo

I was reading about one of the racing series (ALMS??) and they required onboard cameras. There was a spec that required the camera to have a certain field of view out the front, and it also required that it viewed and recorded steering wheel inputs.

After reading that, I decided that I would like to have that info for analyzing my own driving, so I moved the camera as you can see in the Daytona video. You don't get as good a view of the track, but I can still see the line I'm driving, where I'm turning in, etc., plus I can see if I'm being smooth enough with the controls.

I'm already looking forward to running Daytona again. I'll be at the Dec 12-14 event and I think there will be a lot more Vettes there!
