Here's a video I took during an open session during the Chin Motorsports event at VIR last month - last event for me in 2007. I'm running with Jack McAfee in the Yellow Z06 - the Instructor that signed me off for HPDE 4. Looking forward to another great year in 2008 and meeting more forum members.

I run a LPE Oil Cooler so my oil temperatures rarely exceed 220. The Porsche GT3 just spun out into the grass in Turn 1 and returned to the track - no damage. He stopped by after the session - had a good time running with us.

Good video ... I've had Jack as an instructor at Summit and ridden with him in his '84 cross-fire. I know he, Mike, and Ralph are regulars at VIR ... good to watch his driving. ... and yours too! ..

Thanks for posting up, Jim!
Words of wisdom will come from the wise men ...
What's your ride?

Is this your first track event, first event with Chin, or first event at Sebring?
My impression is that Chin is pricey, offers a lot of track time, runs a good program, and that participants are primarily experienced enough to run solo.
Open passing may be allowed in advanced groups - can be a bit intimidating for the less experienced - has Chin evaluated and classed you?
(if you want to open a thread specific to your upcoming event - by all means do so )

Denny,
First track event ever. My only apprehension is just not knowing what to expect. I'm classified as a novice and will have an instructor with me at all times, so that should be good, but there will be numerous other "knuckle head" novices out there with me.
I thought a bit pricy too but I have a buddy who has gone before and he highly recommended it. As I get my feet wet I'll be a little more likely to experement with other venues and hosts.

OK ... link below:
Most of this is about car prep and packing lists ...
HPDE Checklist
There's another perspective - and that's driver preparation.Post 31 speaks to it.
If you haven't done so, go to the Chin Motorsports site and copy the guidelines on flags, rules, and event formats.
Spend some time getting an understanding of "how an event runs" so you know what to expect.
Go to Trackpedia and look for Sebring and track videos - so you know how the track flows.
There is a LOT of information available - the NCM has some for their series as well.
Be as well prepared with information before the day arives - just know that you will be on information overload from the time you prepare to grid for your first session and will not be able to process all the sensory inputs - RELAX and listen to your instructor.
