Re: VIR Registration News - a note from Roc Linkov, NCM
We have been receiving a quite a bit of phone calls about calling in registrations for VIR. There is no guarentee that you will talk with Adam or Roc that morning as it will be extremly busy. If we are tied up on something, your call will go on queue while online registration continues automatically. By time we get to your call or message it may be too late.
Please make every effort to signup online. In order to be prepared for this please make sure you know your login name and password as time will be of the essence the morning of the 5th. If you don't know this information, go to Member Services (box on right side of NCM home page at National Corvette Museum ) and have it emailed to you or contact us PRIOR to February 5th.
BTW ... planning and preparation information will be available on the NCM VIR HPDE page shortly after registration.
Some FAQ:
Driver information form MUST be downloaded, filled out, and submitted by the specified due date (this is for run group placement)
You MUST have your car pre-teched and have the form signed by an appropriate mechanic - preferably a shop that is familiar with track event tech.
Lodging:
The host hotel will be identified on the event page - should be by end of Feb. Last year it was in Danville, about 8 miles from the track. I think it was the Sleep Inn, east side of town, with good trailer access and parking.
There are several hotels in Danville; last year I stayed in the Mariott.
Some stayed in NC - also a few miles from the track.
There REALLY isn't anything closer, but there are some rooms available AT the Track ... as well as camping facilities. Information about that can be obtained on the VIR website.
Registration will open February 5th at 8am central time. You will want to make your reservations as soon as registration opens as this event will fill up in HOURS. Make sure you are signed onto NCM e-News to be notified about the event. Pre-registration includes a personalized event hardcard and event t-shirt.
All right!
So ... I know registration opens at 0900 local ... and I'm down at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (had to drive my wife down for an outpatient procedure on her eye) ... and I'm looking for a computer ... 09:10 I find one in their library. Third login attempt I get in ... at 9:20 or so, Black is full; I try Blue ... and I'm in! ...
Now I find that it sold out in 25 minutes! ...
Somewhere i read that they were gonna have 2 green groups. Is that true?
Not that I know of ... green, yellow, blue, black for students black/red for instructors.
Did you get registered?
If not, you can email Roc and request to get on waiting list if you wish.
I've never visited any of the California tracks which look nice on TV, but VIR early in the morning as you drive over the bridge and look out over a well manicured track with a little haze still hanging in the treetops is an awesome viewing experience. I doubt any track has more eye appeal.
BTW, I believe the the uphill "esses" is where to separate the men/women from the boys/girls. Keep your foot in it to keep the weight on the rear tires and be gentle on the steering inputs and and apex's to keep it settled.
For what it's worth, I have had trouble with their gas.
Enjoy!
