Re: Anyone have a root canal done?
Good luck, jub. I think you have nothing to worry about. I'm amazed at the advances in denistry in recent years. Forget the horror stories of the past.
You'll be good as new soon and probably the worst effect will be awaiting the novacaine to wear off.
...and best of all this won't affect your right foot in any way.

Jub as other have stated the advances in denistry are amazing. However I don't think it will happen today. He/she will give you antibiotics to get rid of the infection then do the root canal. Good luck.
Yeah, I think they even clean off the rust from the dental instruments now-a-days. Good luck!

Re: Anyone have a root canal done?
John, if you have an abscess, most good dentists will not mess with the tooth until you have taken some antibiotics to take care of the infection. I had one done and it wasn't that bad. Just ask for a little more NOS to take the edge off. I hate the needles in the gums (novacaine) so I always asked to get sprayed!

I had one (maybe two) when I was about 10. I still remember it to this day...And that was 30 years ago.....
If they put you out for the surgery and you wake with your belt undone, I'd see a lawyer ASAP!!!
The dentisry business has come a long way. You will be fine. Don't worry about that long needle filled with novacaine when he says "This will feel like a pinch".
BS! It hurts....Hahahahaha Good luck! And if they pull the tooth, I hope you are not too old to believe in the Tooth Fairy. A Root Canal should yeild ten bucks!

I would have thought they would have given antibiotics first. Dentists also prescribe some REALLY stong pain killers. You should be ok but watch the driving on the stuff they prescribe.
Had one last Wednesday, and the greatest pain was the BILL!!
But half a dozen Coronas later, WHO CARES?!
And yes, the Coronas were "prescribed"...

Bob, a Corona would taste good right about now!
Just got back. They brought me in early and got started at around 10:00. The doc finished at 11:30. He had other patients and was going back and forth to different rooms like his pants were on fire.
I must say, it wasn't that bad. The hardest part is sitting still in the chair for a hour and a half with your mouth wide open. I also had one of the rubber dam thingies which I didn't like but, it's a necessary evil. The infection was only slight so he went ahead with the procedure and then put something that smelled like bleach in the canals for disinfecting after he finished drilling with his auger!
Tylenol III and an antibiotic were prescribed. That means no beer for a few days and I just got a new keg for the kegerator. Damn the bad luck.
Oh yea, the best part, it was only $1300.00! No dental insurance.
