I just wonder what is the practical value of the Iphone, perhaps is just the "latest gadget". For what I have read (which is not much), it does the same as the blackberries but with a different interface. I could be wrong........If you have one, please sound off. I would like to know
I have one. Had a blackberry and I liked it. The only problem with the blackberry is the lettering is small. I have had some health problems lately and one specific problem has been my vision blurrs about 10-20 times a day. I liked the way you can change font size and see better when text messaging. I am not a new gadget person so it was more of a necessity for me than a luxury item.
I was on the list at ATT/Cingular to get an iPhone. I have an account there. They opened the store in our town at 5:00 PM and there was a line of people to get the phone. My buddy, who knows the manager there, called me at 6:30 PM and told me to come up there was a few phones left. My buddy bought four iPhones and he gave the last 8 GB to me. My problem is I am unable to activate it as my iMac is in the shop. But I have the phone. Their store got 53 phones mostly 4GB and only 12 8GB. We activated all four of his phones in 40 minutes, including installing iTunes on one of his computers. The phone is the latest with a touch screen operating system. It's a phone, a computer, text messenger, video player and MP3 player all in one. The phone is way too cool. Superb appearance and interface. Many people have had activation problems. We had none with the four we enabled. Sending messages was a snap. Viewing video was very good. The touch screen marvelous. Was it worth $599? It doesn't matter. It's an Apple.
When I saw adults standing, sitting in line over night to get their iPhone, I was dumbfounded. I guess I am getting too laid back in my old age, pretty much like my Z06. I waited until things settled down a bit.
Anyway, we don't have the service in our area, so it is a moot point.
I just have to sit back and laugh about the iPhone. Maybe Mircrosoft isn't so bad with releasing 'beta' products as final versions. LOL Take that Apple!
I have a razor phone and an account w/Cingular. I still haven't learned how to use all the features for this phone...I've NEVER used text messaging even though my phone is set up for it. Guess it's too late to teach this old dog new tricks...it has come in handy when on the road and needing a tow for a flat tire, etc. I'll have to pass on the "new" technology.
The commercials make it look amazing. Unfortunately, I doubt it will ever live up to the hype.
The development of the smart phone is somewhat similar to the development of the personal computer, IMO. The PC started out as a novelty item that didn't have many practical uses for the average person. However, at some point, the it became an integrated part of our lives. Even though I *could* get my job done without a PC, it would certainly be much more of a challenge.
I don't think the smart phones have yet reached that critical stage in their evolution from a novelty gadget to a practical, indispensable tool. Although, I'm sure some will claim that they can't get by without one.
BTW, that Conan video is hilarious!
