Ok, I received my wall mount today so I can now put my spare 50" plasma tv in the garage. Now, here is what I need from you guys. Let me set the stage.
My garage is basically 3 cars wide and two cars deep. The ceiling near the garage door is 10' or so. The ceiling near the rear of the garage is vaulted to 14' or a little more. There is a lift in the center rear bay.
I have my current 5 channel DTS receiver set up with the front speakers on either side of the back wall mounted up high. The walls below them are now occupied by hoods, deck lids, fuel rails and other miscellaneous car stuff. The rear surround speakers are just inside the left and right garage doors mounted high on the wall. The center channel speaker is mounted on a shelf just at the back of the garage (but not currently centered).
Now keep in mind, I know this is a garage so I'm not going into perfect acousics and such.
QUESTION:
Where should I hang the tv? I like to keep things symmetrical around the tv and that leaves the only mounting place as the space at the center of the garage, centered between the two front speakers. The problem is, when I have a car on the lift, the view of the tv could be impaired. What I was thinking is, mount the tv on the wall just low enough where you could see it if you were under the car and when the car is on the ground, or when there is no car on the lift, the view of the tv would not be obscured.
Option: I've thought of moving the speakers around and making one of the side walls the front of the system. The only problem here is that I don't have recessed shelving as I do at the rear of the garage.
Let me know what you think. With a group of minds like we have on this board, I'd really value some of your opinions.
I'll include two pics.
Thanks so much for your input.

That would work, near the bottom of the "Welcome" banner. What about the wall where the pressure washer is? Looks like a lot of empty space there.
My first impression when I saw your garage was near the top of the ceiling angled at a 45 degrees between the ceiling and wall.
If the tv were centered on the wall where the pressure washer resides, it would be where the interior door is. Now, on the other side of the garage, there is a blank wall that would accommodate what you are thinking. All I'd have to do is move speakers around and find a way to mount the receiver and dvd player.
Good thinking.

If you put it under the Arizona poster you could sit in the red Z and pretend your at the drive -in!
Its funny you mention that. One day I was waiting for my wife (at the time) to get ready so we could go out. I was bored, so I went out in the garage, got in the passenger side of the pace car (top was down and it was parked in the rear left of the garage). When she came out, I had a movie playing and one arm hanging out of the door with remote in hand.
Btw, what about making some sort of sliding bracket that would allow me to move the tv up and down on the wall? Hmmmm
Probably the best and easiest thing to do then is put the TV under the banner. That way you don't have to run any more cables (great lengths anyway), which can be a PITA sometimes.
A sliding bracket could be done but what about the cables? You don't want them visible do you?

I still need to move the center channel speaker as it isn't centered on the wall. I love these little projects.
What's next?
Ship me that nifty looking lift......the cars can come too.
What is the attic like above the garage? It looks like viewing will be limited anywhere on that back wall, the side wall does look best for looking at a TV. But it may just be more work than you want to do to relocate speakers and whatnot.
I look forward to having this problem when I can build my shop. I'll most likely have the TV in the corner where I can watch TV while working on guns or reloading.
Norm,
They do make a wall mount with an arm you could angle it a bit depending on which car you were working on.
I would probably put it near your door to the house. That gives you a few seconds to change the porn channel when the wifey walks into the garage to see what you're doing.
If you are working on a car on the lift, you're going to have your back to the TV right?? That won't work, put the TV like I mentioned by the door so you can just turn your head. Unless you just want to be able to sit in your car and pretend you are at the drive in.....
