The IRS Owes Me Money

So I just got the following email from irs.gov:

We are pleased to inform you that upon review of your fiscal activity we have determined that you are eligible to receive a tax refund of $949.30 under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Please submit the tax refund request and allow us 3-6 days in order to process it.

A refund can be delayed for a variety of reasons. For example submitting invalid records or applying after the deadline.

To access the online form for your tax refund, please access the IRS ........

I'm like

1st, I'm no 501(c)(3) organization. The Museum is, but I don't qualify.
2nd, the IRS has never processed anything in less than 6 days.
3rd, the IRS does not have my email address.
4th, $949 wouldn't pay Jub Jub's dental bill.

Seriously guys, it's an old scam that's resurfacing. If you get it, don't click any of the links. Forward it to "phishing@irs.gov" and delete the message.

Re: The IRS Owes Me Money

Only $949??? Damn! I had a guy email me today from England saying that he had United Nations approval (!!) to send me 9+ Million that I won in an overseas lottery. All I have to do is send them all of my personal information along with my bank account # and routing #. KEWEL!!! I guess now I can buy the ZR-1 and not even worry about paying over MSRP!! O.k., dealers, I'm waitin' for the phone to ring!

My rule of thumb? IGNORE, RUN AWAY FROM, DELETE.... ANY offer that sounds too good to be true. It ALWAYS is - and it can be a real heartbreaker instead. The IRS will never email you with an offer of money. No one from Nigeria will ever send you millions so that some deposed crown prince's granddaughter can set up a trust fund for her schooling and they just happened to select you!

I remember when one of our vendors was "giving away" free samples of a new product a couple of years ago. The offer was jumped on by zillions of enthusiasts and all of a sudden, they had a "loss of data" in the computer and couldn't mail them out unless you reapplied and agreed to pay shipping/handling. Fuhgettdaboudit! What a crock!

If I was a 501(c)(3) entity, they'd owe me a hell of a lot more than $949.

Re: The IRS Owes Me Money

Dang, I was just going to ask if I could borrow $947.00 to help offset my dentist bill.
