Common 2001 Z06 Problems and Solutions
Contributing Authors: Z06Vette.com members  -  xx/xx/2001

Problem: Low oil warning in < 1500 miles. Continues after 5000 miles.
Solution: Have dealer check the rings. Some Z06's are affected with "loose rings".

Problem: Radio antenna comes loose.
Solution: Tighten just snug with wrench (or ditch it and use a nipple cover on the exposed stud).

Problem: Have to shift from 1st to 4th.
Solution: Normal, but can be overriden with a CAGS disabler, about a $20 part from most of our vendors. Some owners have had luck with just using a capacitor.

Problem: Something falls though the hole in your your glove box.
Solution: Squeeze the sides of your glove box in when you open it, and it will open all the way down, allowing you to retreive the stuck item.

Problem: Your seat doesn't move into its pre-programmed position.
Solution: Before putting your key in the ignition, hit the unlock button on your key fob.

Problem: Brakes are sticking.
Solution: Replace booster, service bulletin: TSB 01-06-04-022. Parts required: Brake Booster - 18026035 and Gasket - 10160244. Dealer will replace under warranty.

Problem: You can't see the side of your car when parallel parking.
Solution: Program memory seat position #3 to have both side mirrors pointed down, so you can see the curbs.

Problem: Trunk will not release fully.
Solution: Use a small amount of grease on the latch mechanism or adjust trunk stops. Alternatively, use Black Magic's tip on the right.

Problem: Lugnut covers turn up missing.
Solution: It's probably not the neighborhood kids stealing them. A LOT of early Z's lugnut covers were not tightened properly allowing them to fly off in spectacular fashion if you're lucky enough to see it come off (I was). Tighten them 1/3 turn past snug.
