One year after Chevrolet captured the automotive world’s attention with the new Corvette Stingray, it will debut the hardcore Z06 version in Motor City during the 2014 Detroit Auto Show.

Chevrolet has big promises for the new Z06, saying it will be the “most track capable Corvette ever.” Look out, SRT, it sounds like Chevrolet is on a snake hunting mission. The new Z06 is designed to deliver “supercar levels of performance” with enhancements to the chassis, powertrain and body. If what Chevrolet says is true, the Z06 could be even better than the ZR1, although that might not come down to raw power.

The previous Z06 used Chevrolet’s 7.0-liter LS7 smallblock V8 with 505 hp and benefited from weight savings among other changes. Part of that came by using an aluminum chassis and carbon fiber body parts, but the current C7 Stingray already makes use of premium materials similar to those found in the old Z06.

Chevrolet hasn’t said anything else about the performance enhancements and it also isn’t clear what Chevrolet means by “most track capable,” but but there must be big improvements in store. The Stingray uses GM’s new LT1 6.2-liter smallblock V8 that makes up to 460 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque with the Z51 performance package.

This is right after one of the corvette mags said there would be no c7z06-perhaps true if they call it the c7z07. I imagine a 7 liter DI could make 605 hp.
All wheel drive would be nice, the caddy has it, Lambo , GTR, Porsche, why not the corvette? All wheel drive is worth a sec or two in the 1/4, which you would need hundreds of hp to make up for.
Coil overs should be standard on any car intended for track use, and how about a curb weight under 3k. It also needs special tires--355's that weigh the same as 285's. Aluminum body, all wheel steering, and additional electric hp are on supercars now. It should be a 225 mph car, so that it can best the 90's superjag, which was the fastest production car in the world in the 90's. The current 5.0 supercharged jag runs mid 11's and prob near 200 mph. It should also have progressivie aerodynamics, which means things moving depending on speed. Just some bench racing notes.

P.S. The c7z06 should run sub 7 minute on the 'ring. Auf Weidersehen!
