Oh man, ouch is right! That's just sickening to see

BTW, what happens with something like that - your insurance doesn't cover things like that on a race course do they?? Are you SOL, or will insurance pay for it?

What most people say is that your insurance will cover you - once, before they drop you - since technically this is a drivers education course and not racing. I have heard that several insurance companies had drafted specific exclusions to their policies which eliminate coverage during such events. I think you'd have to think long/hard about whether to make a claim based on the amount of damage etc. These kinds of accidents are fairly rare and on most courses, there is better run-off room so that if you do get in trouble you won't hit something hard. Road Atlanta is an exception. Since Panoz wants it to hold big spectator driven races such as the Petit LeMans, they need to put up barriers all around the track to protect the crowds. Little to no run-off room anywhere.

True, very true, but it is still a fun track to run. RA is one track you don't turn off active handling!!!

Definitely the last turn coming into the straight. I'll bet he put 2 left wheels off, panicked, tried to get the car back on the track and when the wheels got back up on the pavement and got grip, his steering wheel was cranked to the right and he shot across the track into what seems to be a really stupid and uncessary concrete barrier.

what is funny is that there are tons of skidmarks in that area, and you'd think they'd maybe make some different type of barrier, other then that concrete wall..

sucks, I almost cried looking at that lambo...

"Lambo Crash
Just reviewed your Thread. I was the owner of the Lambo you all have commented on. After reading all the speculation, I thought you should know what really happened. I was invited to bring the car there to participate in the filming of a commercial for a local Motorcycle Dealership. My job was to ride around and have the cameras film the car for inclusion in that commercial. I had done this thru the day, with various passengers, who were there, and wanted a ride in the Lambo. During my last outing, I went out wide under the bridge, leading to turn 12 and caught the speed bumbs on the left side. The car was "light" and immediatley spun a half turn and slid down the hill into the wall. You can see the result. Most importantly my passenger and I escaped with "minor" injuries- cuts in both of our heads, broken collar bone and a lot of soreness! Fyi, the car was totalled and the insurance company paid in full with no complaint- I was not racing, preparing to race or taking any "times". Also, I am very familiar with the Track having raced there many times in AMA, CCS, and WERA motorcycle races. Allan."

RossoZ -

I'm actually hitting VIR in Nov. with the Tarheel BMW club. If I can get spousal permission, I may look into the Audi club event as well if it's still open.
