New marketing program will rely on classic Chevys and classic Chevy songs
Chevrolet has announced it is rolling out a splashy new advertising campaign featuring classic Impalas, 409s, and 1957 Chevys accompanied by songs from Prince, Elton John, and the Beach Boys, among others, that mention the Chevrolet brand. The GM division's head of car advertising and sales promotion, Jim Jandesek, told the Wall Street Journal that the campaign calls on the Chevrolet brand's history, especially the popularity of the classic 1950s models, because of its "huge gravitational pull." The Journal notes that ad-agency researchers found more than 200 songs that mention Chevrolets, from sources ranging from Don McLean to Coolio to the Ramones. Many of those will be used in the ad campaign. Chevrolet car sales for the year through August are down 6.1 percent, although sales of trucks are up twelve p! ercent. Not surprisingly, Chevrolet plans to continue its "Like a Rock" truck ad campaign.
